ERM is seeking a Senior Consultant for its Private Markets Decarbonization & Energy Transition Investing team. This role is designed for experienced professionals passionate about sustainability and adept at combining financial, commercial, and decarbonization strategies. The Senior Consultant will deliver impactful solutions that guide private equity and infrastructure investors through the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The Ideal Candidate
You have a strong background in strategy consulting, with expertise in decarbonization programs, market studies, customer insights, pricing optimization, financial modeling, and quantifying top and bottom-line growth initiatives. Your experience will help clients develop and implement decarbonization strategies that drive sustainable value creation across their portfolio companies. You are adept at engaging C-suite executives and guiding senior management teams on developing greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, decarbonization roadmaps, and setting credible net-zero and science-based targets.
Role Responsibilities:
Client and Project Leadership
- Strategic Advisory: Lead the development and implementation of decarbonization and energy transition strategies for private markets investor clients, focusing on value creation and competitive advantage.
- Decarbonization Roadmaps: Collaborate with investors and portfolio company clients’ ESG, investment, and portfolio teams to design roadmaps aligned with science-based targets.
- Financial Modelling: Build and analyze complex financial models to measure decarbonization impacts on revenue and profitability.
- Market Analysis and Customer Insights: Conduct comprehensive market studies to identify sustainability trends, customer behaviors, and emerging opportunities related to decarbonization.
- Pricing Optimization: Advise on pricing strategies that align with low-carbon value propositions and enhance market positioning.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Conduct in-depth analyses of GHG inventories, supply chain impacts, and decarbonization performance metrics.
- C-Suite Engagement: Guide senior executives in implementing sustainability strategies and achieving net-zero goals.
- Program Implementation: Oversee execution of decarbonization projects, ensuring alignment with General Partner goals and portfolio objectives.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Mentorship: Support and develop junior consultants, fostering their growth in sustainability-focused consulting.
- Thought Leadership: Create frameworks, processes, and toolkits to streamline decarbonization initiatives across portfolio companies.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with ERM’s technical and industry experts to craft holistic sustainability solutions.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Sustainability, Engineering, or related fields; advanced degrees (MBA or similar) preferred.
- Experience: 2-4 years in decarbonization and private markets, with expertise in financial modelling, strategic consulting, and energy transition initiatives.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Advanced Excel modelling and PowerPoint storytelling skills.
- Familiarity with TCFD, SBTi, GHG Protocol, and sustainability frameworks such as LEED, IRIS+, and the Impact Management Project.
- Analytical Expertise: Quantitative skills to develop actionable insights from complex data.
- Decarbonization Knowledge: Deep understanding of renewable energy, energy efficiency measures & low-carbon solutions across sectors, and industrial decarbonization.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to present complex ideas and influence senior stakeholders.
- Commercial Acumen: Awareness of financial implications of sustainability on investment outcomes.

For the Senior Consultant, Decarbonization & Energy Transition (Mid-Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $76,875 – $89,969 (USD). An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
