The Solar Field Technician will support the solar operations and maintenance team by performing field solar PV system troubleshooting and maintenance. This role helps ensure that system performance is meeting expectations and customer satisfaction is maintained. This Solar Field Technician collaborates with internal team members and external clients to drive efficiency and ensure that effective solar operations and maintenance (O&M) practices are enacted. This position is essential in assisting with the renewable system O&M teams. Solar Field Technicians are accountable for achieving specific solar performance and energy production goals.
Salary Range: $55-$65/hr+ depending on experience
The responsibilities of the Solar Field Technician include recommissioning, minor repair, and maintenance of operational solar energy systems. Tasks may include taking measurements, performing tests, troubleshooting and repairing issues, and other system maintenance as needed. This person is expected to meet with clients to describe the system operational expectations, explain the maintenance process, and follow up to ensure that their systems are operating properly. The position is essential to ensure that the Company provides excellent service and results for our solar O&M clients while actively promoting safe practices and embracing new approaches to accomplish necessary work more efficiently and effectively. Time requirements for each role will be dependent on work loading and available resources.
Solar Field Technician Responsibilities
- Coordinate with customers and subcontractors to perform solar annual inspections, troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and washings
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, testing, and commissioning processes for existing solar fleet
- Provide remote analysis and troubleshooting of installed and monitored equipment
- Provide project closeout and commissioning support and review for transition from projects to service
- Provide training to customers during project hand off and on-going as necessary.
- Complete checklists, documentation, and photography of solar or renewable O&M or tasks via spreadsheet and/or in Work Management System
- Support sales staff with data, sales material, and case studies
- Develop process improvements to achieve program objectives
- Support solar O&M team as needed
- Proactively perform maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting on solar fleet systems to ensure solar performance guarantees are met
- Organize logistics and travel for self and others on team to and from client sites throughout California
- Coordinate system contracts of varying sizes while maintaining customer expectations and working effectively and efficiently
- Potential participation in association and industry events to learn, develop, and educate team members
- Coordinate with internal operations team and external partners to provide consistent customer service and to provide feedback supporting continuous improvement of the program
- Other duties as assigned
Solar Field Technician Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in solar operations and maintenance processes preferred
- Knowledge of solar equipment and basic understanding of troubleshooting processes for equipment
- Certified Electrician required
- Basic understanding/experience with electrical wiring of AC and DC systems
- Valid California driver's license and clean driving record
- Technical aptitude and detail-oriented
- Organized in a fast-paced environment with changing and/or competing priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with commercial or education clientele
- Experience working with energy programs or promoting energy efficiency in a business setting is a plus
- Experience working with MS Office and web-based computer programs
Working Conditions
- Frequent travel to outdoor site locations within California year-round working in customer settings which may include industrial, agricultural, municipal, and educational work environments.
- This position requires an average of 50% per week of travel
- Although not regular, evening and weekend work may be required
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, comfortably lift 40+ pounds, and must be able to work on your feet for extended periods of time
- Solar Field Technicians work under a variety of outdoor weather conditions and in various settings depending on the specific system location and O&M agreement in effect between SiteLogIQ and customer.
