JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Gulf Islands National Seashore, in the Facility Management Division. This job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 100 applicants. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Small Craft Operator, you will perform the following duties: Oversees and manages safety aspects of all watercraft operations, such as proper navigational operations, safety of cargo and personnel, proper loading of cargo, determinations as to whether or not to operate in certain sea and/or weather conditions. Transports and assists scientific parties in locating intended sites in order that research can be conducted. Conducts towing and salvage operations. Collects potable water samples from water systems on islands. Collects beach water samples from Ship Island. Maintains and troubleshoots generators. Maintains and repairs building wiring, lighting, and branch circuits; replaces fixtures and outlets. Performs electrical preventive maintenance, troubleshoots and repairs appliances, marine and shore power generators up to 60 kw, and other electrical equipment. Operates maintains multiple pieces of heavy equipment and attachments with hydraulic controls. Includes tractors, skid-steers, excavators, backhoe with multiple attachments using pto's pneumatic drives. Makes periodic inspections of vessel to recommend repairs during annual yard haul-outs and to maintain vessel in good, safe operating condition by making minor adjustments and repairs as needed. Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative for vessel haul outs and repairs. Writes scopes of work (SOW) for routine vessel maintenance and repairs.
