JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Joint Administrative Operations, Human Resources Division - Benefits. This position serves as a Human Resources Specialist providing day-to-day advisory and operational services in the field of employee benefits for the FWS. MAJOR DUTIES: The salary used in this announcement is based upon the Rest of the United States pay table. The Human Resources Specialist salary will be based upon duty station and locality pay once selected. Locality tables may be found at: 2024 Federal Pay Tables Positions located in the Anchorage, AK may be eligible for cost of living allowance (COLA) in addition to base salary. COLA rates may be found at: COLA As a Human Resources Specialist your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Researches eligibility requirements on a broad range of benefits and flexibilities available to employees and provides advice and guidance on enrollments and other requirements. Provides technical guidance and assistance to managers, supervisors, and employees in variety of employee benefits programs, which may include workers' compensation, retirement, health and life benefits, Thrift Savings Plan, Long Term Care Program, etc. Advise management and counsel employees on eligibility for such programs as health and life insurance, leave, and the Thrift Saving Plan. Handles correspondence to employees/survivors on complex, delicate, or highly contested determinations of benefits eligibility. Ensures that employees are counseled and aware of their options with all aspects of retirement and benefit programs.
