Salary: $103,409 (Step 01) to $134,435 (Step 10) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Supervisory Interdisciplinary Biologist/Chemist (Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance Officer) within the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC), some of your specific duties will include: Implements Regulatory Affairs activities for the USGS Ecosystems Mission Area and serves as the authoritative Bureau expert on study design, data requirements and interpretation of data generated to maintain and/or gain regulatory approval of registered or candidate pesticides or biopesticides (i.e., chemical, biological or genomic/molecular) through federal and state (i.e., U.S. and Canada) regulatory agencies. Reviews and assesses regulatory guidelines to determine data and information requirements to maintain and/or gain regulatory approval of currently registered or candidate pesticides/biopesticides through federal and state (i.e., U.S. and Canada) regulatory agencies then identifies and prioritizes regulatory data inadequacies which must be addressed to support new or maintain current pesticide or biopesticide registrations to control aquatic invasive species. Leads the Center's Quality Assurance (QA) Program in compliance with Federal Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations (21 CFR 58, 40 CFR 160) for those studies which may be submitted in support of the approval for a veterinary medicine product or the registration of a pesticide or biopesticide. Conducts analyses to evaluate the effectiveness and compliance of the Quality Management System (QMS) at UMESC and responds as appropriate to information requests from the Region or Bureau QMS Coordinator; informs Region, Mission Area and Bureau QMS Coordinators of the complexities inherent in applying mission area QMS requirements to ongoing science activities, articulates problems to mission area QMS staff, and negotiates effective solutions in compliance with Bureau QMS policy. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work; assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, and the capabilities of employees.
