Job Purpose/Background:
As Greenbacker continues to raise capital and grow our investment portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead our tax provision and corporate income tax compliance function to contribute business value to the organization. This is a challenging role and the chosen candidate will wear many hats to work on a broad range of corporate tax matters and work with our internal and external stakeholders including our external managed services tax providers. The position will be responsible for the following tax processes: quarterly tax provisions, coordinating flow of information from Greenbacker’s accounting department to managed tax service providers, reviewing corporate income tax returns prior to filing, maintaining the tax calendar and supporting documentation, state income tax apportionment, tax forecasting including federal, state, and E&P, design, implementation, and maintenance of tax technology and tax-aligned ERP, completing and coordinating tax research projects, and working with the investment team and senior leaders in the organization on corporate tax planning, tax research, and due diligence related to potential acquisitions and divestitures. As the majority of Greenbacker’s assets are in the United States, detailed knowledge of foreign tax laws is not required.
As a small and fast-growing firm, the Tax Manager responsibilities will be broad, varied and all encompassing. The role can be based in either our Portland, Maine, New York City or Montpelier, VT offices or remote (NOTE: Must work East Coast hours when remote).
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute business value from tax via income tax forecasting, projections, planning, and efficient process
- Design, implementation, and maintenance of tax technology ecosystem including tax-aligned ERP
- Manage corporate income tax compliance including our outsourced tax relationship with managed services tax providers
- Manage tax provision preparation and preparation of financial statements footnotes in accordance with ASC 740, including state tax matters such as apportionment
- Manage corporate income tax forecasting and planning including Federal income tax, state income tax, and E&P (earnings and profits)
- Coordination between various departments, tax team, and broader AFT team (Accounting, Finance and Treasury) on tax matters
- Work with the Investment team as well as outside tax counsel on asset acquisitions, transfers/sales between Greenbacker entities, and dispositions
- Review, draft, and/or instruct on a wide range of federal and state corporate tax matters
- Review tax related documents prior to filing.
Requirements - CPA, Master’s or Juris Doctorate degree in tax-preferred with 6 plus years related experience in a tax practice or comparable public company corporate environment focused on corporate income tax provisions and compliance.
- Experience with tax technology (Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, Bloomberg Tax, PowerPlan Tax Provision, Oracle Tax Reporting) is preferred and must demonstrate proficiency with key system
- Automation of tax data and processes including data collection, mapping, calculation, and analysis
- Adaptability and business-oriented approach, with an emphasis on project management
- Ability to manage through multiple reporting relationships
- Collaborative and strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to clearly explain principles and concepts of tax on a business level.
