The Opportunity...
GRID Alternatives is looking for a Major Gifts Officer - Tribal to join our national Headquarters Philanthropy team and support our efforts to increase major, impact-driven funding partnerships from foundations and corporations and manage a current portfolio of foundation and corporate partners who have committed to GRID’s Tribal Program. Our organization is well-positioned to dramatically increase support from these sectors, thanks to rapidly growing interest from the funder community around the intersection of climate change and economic and racial justice, and our status as a growing national nonprofit organization with a proven track record of building community-powered solutions to advance economic and environmental justice through renewable energy.
Since 2010, GRID Alternatives has worked with tribal communities across the United States to support their renewable energy goals and visions for a sustainable future through tribal focused programs. The Tribal Program supports tribes in asserting control over their energy resources and focuses on making project implementation feasible by leveraging state and federal programs, philanthropic dollars, and partnerships with other tribes across Indian County while working in alignment to identify, develop, finance and implement solar power projects that meet community needs, including education, hands-on training, and energy cost reductions for tribal members.

Core Responsibilities:
- Work directly with the Vice President of Philanthropy and Co-Executive Director of Tribal Programs to spearhead efforts to raise major 5- to 7-figure funding partnerships from philanthropic foundations and corporations, including developing and implementing fundraising and thought leadership strategies
- Manage a portfolio of existing funders including reporting on existing grants, submitting new funding applications, and cultivating long-term relationships
- Work with key staff in the Philanthropy Department to develop and expand relationships with foundations identified as funding prospects for our Tribal Program.
- Provide key thought leadership and drive collaboration with Tribal team leadership on foundation and corporate fundraising strategy, case for support development, and identifying opportunities to grow program and organizational capacity through major partnerships
- Serve as a key member of GRID Alternatives’ national fundraising leadership team, including developing long-term fund development strategies and related thought leadership efforts around the importance of equitable renewable energy and clean transportation programs
- Promote a Culture of Philanthropy across the organization
What you need to bring to this role...
- Passionate advocate for renewable energy, affordable housing, workforce development, and/or environmental justice work
- Ability to develop a prospecting strategy to secure new funders
- 4 or more years of professional nonprofit fundraising or grantmaking experience, including a demonstrated track record of managing major 6- to 7-figure foundation and corporate partnerships
- Demonstrated exceptional persuasive writing skills, including both grant writing, oral presentations and email communication
- Excellent organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail and deadlines
- Excellent collaboration skills, including the ability to coordinate and communicate effectively and efficiently with a variety of internal team members
- Solid computer productivity skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Apps
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Comfortable working as part of a team in a hard working, informal, high-growth organization
It would be great if you also had...
- Specific experience with renewable energy, affordable housing, and/or environment/environmental justice work
- Experience working within tribal communities
- Existing relationships with national foundations that focus on climate change, environmental justice and/or economic opportunity
- Experience working with or in a large networked organization
Where you will sit and the places you may go…
This position is remote and may rarely require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band ($72k-$101k annually), plus the benefits below.
