Manager, Systems Engineering (Hybrid)

Position Summary:
As the Manager, Systems Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in leading and driving results for global engineering and product development activities within our organization. You will be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of projects, managing and developing a team of engineers, designers and/or technicians as well as building customer relationships and contributing to the overall success of the hydrogen applications department. The Engineering Manager should possess strong leadership skills with superior technical aptitudes.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- This is a Hybrid position requiring working on site three (3) days per week
- Develop Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, develop controls strategies, perform Hazard and Operability Studies, perform Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis studies, and specify critical balance of plant components for hydrogen generating systems.
- Create manufacturing and service procedures as necessary to support the assembly, installations, and continual operation of electrolyzer products.
- Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of all Plug Power products’ designs and functionality to enable acting as a Subject Matter Expert for hydrogen generation systems
- Develop and lead projects for equipment cost reduction and efficiency improvement
- Act as Responsible Engineer and coordinate/collaborate with internal personnel for testing and deployments of new or modified technology
- Interface with vendors as necessary to vet their offering, gain critical information for troubleshooting, or implement improvements
- Provide guidance and technical expertise to component and automation engineers as to how overall system and individual equipment is meant to operate
- Provide expertise to assist the construction management team with drawing development and permitting as needed
- Review operational data and construction/assembly drawings to assist in complex troubleshooting efforts with field service personnel
- Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field required; engineering preferred
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 2 + years’ experience supervisory experience and developing technical teams
- Ability to manage a budget/understand fiscal responsibility concepts
- In-depth knowledge of hydrogen systems and how they are deployed at customer sites
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations
