The Converter & Electrical (C&E) Module is part of Vestas R&D organization called Power Solutions. The Converter Concept team with C&E Module is an essential contributor in making the current and future wind turbines more efficient and cost effective by developing the electrical power conversion components. This is done by being responsible for development and maintenance of the components according to the full value chain requirements. All Vestas products are based on internally developed converters since electrical power conversion is at the core of how a wind turbine performs, operates, and interacts with the electrical grid.
With an engineering background in power conversion your main role will be to supervise the design of wind converters. The daily work will be within a broad network of stakeholders and together with the electrical specialists you will set the standard for tomorrows design. You will be a part of the Converter Concept team. The Converter Concept team consists of 15+ highly skilled designers and specialists located in Aarhus (Denmark), Porto (Portugal) and Chennai (India).
Responsibilities
- As Technical Lead in Converters, you will report to the manager (Sub-module Owner) in Converter & Electrical Module in Vestas
- Your main responsibilities will be to oversee and coordinate design of the Wind Turbine Converter projects through its life cycle i.e. from Concept to Implementation
- Lead, supervise and implement Converter design work within project scope from start to finish, ensuring that they are completed within budget, on time, and to the required quality standards
- Coordinate project teams, including engineers, technicians, contractors, and other stakeholders, to ensure that everyone is working towards the same goal
- Responsible for all project documentation for Converters to Ensure that all project documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date
- Prepare and deliver regular progress reports to senior management and other stakeholders
- Work closely with Project managers and project planners to maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets, and ensure that they are regularly updated
- Conduct risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies as needed in alignment with functional lead and Project manager
- Prepare and facilitate component peer-reviews and technical reviews
- Responsible for alignment on all the interfaces and stakeholders for the project and ensure alignment of functionality with other components, system, and value chain
- Balance trade-offs in design towards other interfaces to meet overall system performance targets and cost
- Able to coordinate, facilitate and execute the PR (problem reports), CR (change requests) and CN (change notices) within project scope and secure plan for change execution and implementation
Qualification
- Bachelor / Master's in Electrical / Power Electronics / Power Systems / Mechanical/ Similar specialization any engineering specialization
- A Bachelor's in a relevant area, i.e., Electrical, Mechanical, Power electronics or Power systems
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in supervising project in Converter design or similar
- Experienced in project execution in matrix organization
- Experience in project management, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teams and stakeholders
- Knowledge of project management software tools like Jira and Microsoft Project, is good to have
- Specific knowledge of
- In-depth understanding Converters in relevant power and voltage class
- Understanding of converter circuit and operation and of principal components such as main circuit components: current interruption, relays, busbars, insulators, sensors
- Understanding of Earthing schemes; protection and selectivity; insulation coordination; fault handling
- Knowledge of International design standards
- Systems Engineering process adherence through concept-requirements-design-verification-handover
