Appalachian Voices is a nonprofit advocacy organization that brings people together to protect the land, air, and water of Central and Southern Appalachia and advance a just transition to a clean energy economy. Position Details
Appalachian Voices seeks an Advancement Operations & Data Specialist to support the Advancement Program across our fundraising efforts. This position will play a critical role in supporting this function through data entry, tracking, and hygiene in the database of record, Salesforce. The Specialist should understand best practices in data management, be able to identify and adapt to shifting priorities, and be flexible and resourceful.
This position will work under the supervision of the Advancement Manager and in close coordination with the Advancement, Operations, and Communications Teams, to process gifts in a timely manner and assist with stewardship of donors through gift acknowledgements and annual mailings.
Location
This position may operate remotely from within the Appalachian region. Travel within the region is required.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities
Supporting the Advancement Program
- Oversee database maintenance, including but not limited to daily data entry, reporting, record keeping, and account and system audits.
- Work with operations staff to ensure that all gifts are properly recorded, deposited, and acknowledged in a timely fashion.
- Work closely with the Grants Writer and Coordinator to maintain the Advancement Team calendar and be a key contact for scheduling meetings, travel, and other logistics.
- Transcribe reports and/or notes during team and donor meetings as necessary.
- Work in concert with the Grants Writer & Coordinator to maintain a digital file cabinet of important documents.
- Lead set-up for donor meetings, site visits, and other fundraising events.
- Support the research of prospective donors.
Supporting the Individual Giving Program
- Implement fundraising strategies for membership and mid-level donors with support from Advancement Manager and Director of Individual Giving.
- Support the stewardship of members and mid-level donors (annual mailings, membership renewals, donor acknowledgement, member engagement).
- Assist with planning the Annual Membership meeting.
Working as a collaborative member of the broader Advancement, Communications, and Operations teams:
- Partner with Grants Writer & Coordinator in notetaking and records management, assisting in the capture of communications with program officers/grantmakers in Salesforce;
- Share responsibilities of planning, leading, and note-taking for Advancement Team meetings;
- Assist in the development of annual fundraising goals and projections;
- Maintain an accounting of Key Performance Indicators for the department’s individual giving program.
Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years working in Salesforce
- Strong computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office programs and G Suite applications
- Strong communication skills and demonstrable reading comprehension, writing, editing, proofreading, and research competencies
- Candidate must work well within a team environment
- Commitment to environmental justice, social equity, and sustainable development goals.
- Previous experience in advancement data management, preferred.
- Experience managing or executing system-wide data integrity projects, preferred.
Compensation
This is a full-time, non-exempt position that is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit; specific terms and conditions of employment are subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary is commensurate with experience; however, the expected salary range is between $50,000- $60,000; candidates seeking the higher end of this range should be able to demonstrate a very strong background, experience, or other factors.
