What We Need – Position Description
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in buildings, or building decarbonization, is an essential strategy for achieving emission reduction goals, managing housing and utility costs, and creating healthy facilities with improved indoor air quality. The Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA) seeks qualified candidates to change the status quo of building energy efficiency in the Southeast by planning and implementing clean energy programs and projects. This position will cultivate expertise and resources, engage with stakeholders to understand their distinct needs and perspectives, and support processes and special projects to leverage available resources for SEEA initiatives.
The manager / senior manager is responsible for the management, supervision, and continued development of SEEA’s portfolio of projects and programs. The position collaboratively guides individuals and teams to achieve program outcomes, engages with external stakeholders to understand their needs and provide insight on policy decisions, and leads the development and funding of new initiatives. This position will provide subject matter expertise across the organization and ensure that project goals align with SEEA’s mission and goals.
Reporting to the Director of Technology and Market Solutions, the manager / senior manager will support initiatives including, but not limited to, building energy codes, building energy efficiency programs, and workforce development efforts while contributing to SEEA’s cross-functional work. This position will build partnerships with state and local governments, nonprofits, academia, businesses, and utilities to support SEEA’s work across 12 states and five U.S. territories.
How You Will Create Change – Core Responsibilities
Project and Program Management
SEEA designs, implements, and evaluates projects and programs to advance clean energy in our region. Working both collaboratively and independently, you will:
Manager level:
- Lead and collaborate on execution of existing projects and programs.
- Ensure high trust among project partners and relevant stakeholders by delivering high-quality work and cultivating a collaborative atmosphere.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project management plans, documentation, budget tracking, and other deliverables.
- Identify opportunities to expand SEEA’s impact throughout its footprint.
Senior manager level:
- Engage in senior level strategy in collaboration with the Director and leaders across all program areas to identify emerging areas in alignment with SEEA long range plan.
- Collaborate to identify diverse funding streams including fee for service work to support SEEA’s project and program management.
- Lead execution and management of SEEA projects and programs by establishing and monitoring outcomes, deliverables, staffing plans, timelines, reporting and budgets to ensure deliverables are completed on time.
- Create comprehensive project plans, documentation, financial reports, and invoices as required by grant and project agreements.
- Provide regular updates to project partners and relevant stakeholders.
- Identify and foster cross-functional team collaboration on projects and program outcomes.
Cultivate Expertise and Resources
SEEA produces resources that create meaningful connections between data and lived experience to inform strategies adopted by stakeholders and decision-makers in the Southeast.
Manager level:
- Cultivate expertise in stakeholder mapping, meeting planning and facilitation, and problem-solving.
- Analyze and track the efficient energy and clean energy opportunity landscape, including regulatory processes, legislative action, federal programs and initiatives, and funding opportunities relevant to states and communities in SEEA’s portfolio of work.
- Draft and deliver reports, fact sheets, policy memos, presentations, white papers, proposals, and other materials.
- Grow technical and project management expertise to meet SEEA and career development goals.
Senior manager level:
- Partner in creating and executing project deliverables and communications plans.
- Serve as subject matter expert internally and externally.
- Inform organizational strategy and support innovation.
- Manage cross-team collaboration within SEEA to leverage expertise and resources.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
SEEA’s stakeholders inform and generate change throughout our region. It is critical to SEEA’s mission that all people, businesses, governments, and organizations are well-connected and able to collaborate. To create an inclusive clean energy future, we must work together to identify and support diverse needs. The manager will support SEEA’s stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
Manager level:
- Cultivate and maintain trusting relationships.
- Facilitate information sharing of best practices, program design, and funding opportunities in the region.
- Collaborate with SEEA’s research, policy and communications teams to translate project outcomes and learnings into various content formats, including reports, presentations, websites, and videos.
- Support SEEA’s virtual and in-person events, including logistics and other functions.
Senior manager level:
- Engage stakeholders on equity issues or opportunities to address disparate social outcomes through policy and practices.
- Serve as SEEA’s representative at external events and be able to speak to SEEA’s programmatic work, strategic plan, and the organization overall.
- Recruit clean energy stakeholders for SEEA membership, partnership, and service our mission.
Development
SEEA staff collaborate on proposal ideation, partner engagement and recruitment, and proposal creation to develop a body of work aligned with our mission and vision and meeting the needs of the Southeast. The Senior Manager will:
- Monitor and support organizational awareness of program areas and project funding opportunities.
- Lead and support cultivation of funding opportunities and fee-for-service work by providing input and advising on funding proposals, budgets, and staffing plans.
- Support proposal development processes, including content development, editing, and facilitation of collaboration.
- Contribute to funder and/or client relationship management, reporting, and communications.
- Track SEEA budget and actual financials and manage resources with Director and senior leadership.
Team Supervision
The Senior Manager may supervise a small (1-3 individuals) internal team. In this role, this position will:
- Communicate and ensure direct reports understand and are accountable in their roles, responsibilities, work plans, goals, and metrics for performance.
- Provide direction, resources, and guidance to direct reports to ensure they can effectively fulfill their work requirements and address challenges as they arise.
- Review and assess direct report’s work performance to ensure they are meeting standards for work scope, accuracy, completeness, and quality.
- Create annual workplans with SMART goals for professional development and project performance with direct reports.
- Foster a trusting and supportive relationship with direct reports through transparent communication, feedback, and guidance on professional development.

Manager level:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in policy, energy, sustainability, or related field.
- A minimum of five years of related experience with working knowledge of the built environment, local and state government, energy efficiency, or sustainability industries with demonstrated advancement in project responsibilities.

In addition to the described qualifications, senior manager level candidates should:
- A minimum of seven years of related experience with working knowledge of the built environment, local and state government, energy efficiency, or sustainability industries with demonstrated program leadership.
- Have experience managing a portfolio of projects and programs with proven success in meeting deadlines and adapting to shifting priorities.
- Have previously developed and implemented strategic and tactical plans.
- Have managed teams of people, contractors, and vendors and set expectations for accountability, communication, and performance.
- Have experience in developing project/program concepts and creating successful funding proposals/grant applications.
- Be skilled in collaboration, problem-solving, giving, and receiving feedback, and meeting facilitation.
- Possess subject matter expertise in building energy efficiency demonstrated by service on boards of directors and committees, a record of presenting work at national meetings and webinars, and/or leadership in building and sustaining partnerships.

Classification & Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. This position is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and will require occasional travel. SEEA’s current hybrid work schedule requires a minimum of two in-office workdays per week.
We offer a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience.
