This pivotal role involves guiding the development and integration of firmware solutions across diverse platforms and products. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with architects and engineering teams to influence project directions and contribute to high-quality firmware designs. Strong communication skills, a creative problem-solving approach, and a commitment to innovation and security in embedded systems are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Collaboration & Influence
- Partner with architects and cross-functional teams to drive firmware decisions.
- Ensure alignment of firmware with electrical hardware requirements.
- Provide critical insights during design reviews and communicate technical strategies effectively.
- Offer technical guidance and coaching to the firmware team.
Architecture & Design
- Engage in firmware architecture design and participate in critical design reviews.
- Ensure alignment with firmware platforms and methods used across Secure Power (SP) and other product lines.
- Own and define the embedded firmware roadmap.
Innovation & Security
- Lead initiatives to enhance product security, fault tolerance, forensics, and self-testing capabilities.
- Reinforce the resilience and cybersecurity of our firmware solutions.
Platform Governance
- Coordinate with SP Platform Governance to ensure compliance and alignment.
- Create and lead firmware architecting and the development of reusable blocks across products.
Vendor Relations
- Build relationships with external vendors and consultants to ensure ecosystem alignment with the Schneider Electric product roadmap.
Product Line Involvement
- T&E \ RES: Focus on rack power distribution units (rPDU) and rack automatic transfer switches (rATS).
- T&E \ HBN: Work with 1φ, on-line, and line-interactive UPS systems.
- Supporting Environments: Contribute to firmware solutions for data centers, micro data centers/edge, data closets, and high-performance computing (HPC)/AI environments.
General Requirements:
Education
- BS/MS degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
Technical Expertise
- Minimum of 15 years in embedded firmware development, focusing on real-time operating systems (RTOS), such as Embedded Linux (required, Yocto preferred), uCos, FreeRTOS, ThreadX, and Zephyr.
Cybersecurity
- Hands-on experience with cybersecurity measures for embedded systems.
Portability & Modularity
- Proven ability to develop modular firmware ensuring portability across platforms.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Experience in a leadership role, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to team growth and knowledge sharing.

- Quality & Safety: Deliver reliable, safe firmware solutions that meet rigorous quality standards.
- Platform Development: Drive development of platform-based solutions that streamline integration and scalability.
- Innovation & Simplicity: Simplify complex systems while enhancing testability and modularity.
- Time-to-Market: Prioritize efficient development to meet project timelines and market demands.
Organizational Structure
- Collaborate with three global design centers and seven hardware architects.
- Work closely with platform governance teams, particularly within SP and T&E.
Technical Expertise
- Microcontrollers: Experience with MCUs including LCES (A7/M3) and platforms from TI and STMicroelectronics.
- Hardware Knowledge: Ability to understand schematics and debug hardware issues using tools like oscilloscopes and power supplies.
- Bus/Communication Protocols: Proficiency in I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, RS232/485, and 100/1000Base-T Ethernet.
- Analog/Digital Controls: Proficiency in power control (DC/DC, AC/DC, DC/AC).
- Programming Languages: Strong skills in C, C++, Java, and Python.
