The Project
UGL and CPB Contractors have been awarded the early works contract to support Powerlink’s delivery of CopperString 2032. This $5 billion iconic project will initially be approximately 840 kilometres of new transmission line running from just south of Townsville to Mount Isa that will connect Queensland’s North-West Minerals Province to the national electricity grid.
The project scope includes:
• 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from just south of Townsville to Hughenden
• 330kV transmission line from Hughenden to Cloncurry
• 220kV transmission line from Cloncurry to Mount Isa
• up to six new substation sites.
The Role
This exciting project has commenced, and we are currently looking for an experienced Senior Enviromental Planner to join the team.
Ensure project compliance with relevant environmental legislation, regulations and contractual obligations as it relates to the construction, design and operation of the JV’s scope.
Provide advice on environmental and planning approval pathways associated with ancillary infrastructure development including vegetation clearing, access roads and associated supporting infrastructure.
Prepare moderately complex development applications in line with legislative, policy and business requirements related to local and state planning pathways including code and impact assessable development
What will a day in this role look like:
- Providing specialist advice to internal stakeholders on environmental and planning approval pathways for the project scope and proposed changes, incorporating planning and approvals timeframes associated with the project.
- Prepare development applications and other approvals in line with legislative, policy and business requirements.
- Procure and manage subconsultants required to provide inputs into the required approvals and supporting information.
- Lead high level environmental investigations relating to approvals involving internal and external parties.
- Liaise with government bodies and professional organisations on environmental matters related to project approvals including Local government, state agencies and SARA
- Undertake leadership activities by coaching and mentoring on relevant environment management plans and strategies to meet requirement
- Manage consultant budget allocations to ensure environmental management is undertaken in a cost-effective manner.
What you will bring to the team.
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental planning/science/management
- 10 years’ experience in environmental impact assessment, environmental approvals and planning and development applications
- Knowledge and ability to interpret Commonwealth, State and Council environmental legislation
- Sound understanding of environmental management principles and application within the construction industry
- Competent in using geographic information systems related to environmental planning and management
