Knowledge, Skills and Other Requirements
• Bachelor Degree in Science (Engineering or related EH&S field)
• Five (5) years of experience leading various EHS areas such as Environmental, Health and Safety, and Industrial Hygiene in the Pharmaceutical industry
• Fully cognizant of applicable Federal and Commonwealth rules and regulations
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work under pressure of time, and capable of working with minimal direct supervision.
• Good interpersonal skills
• Computer knowledge
• Completely bilingual (Spanish and English).
Responsibilities
1. Provides technical and regulatory guidance on environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety issues, focusing on the recognition, evaluation, and control of physical, chemical, and environmental hazards.
2. Advise management on the proper procedures, work practices, and equipment to use to ensure compliance with all legal requirements and regulations in these fields.
3. Implements EHS self-assessment programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable local, federal, and company regulations and directives.
4. Reviews capital renovations and new construction projects to ensure environmental, industrial hygiene and Safety issues are addressed.
5. Administers Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or Safety programs for the site, which include the following duties:
• Delivers environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety training programs.
• Conducts monitoring as appropriate (e.g., dust monitoring, noise monitoring, chemical monitoring), performs the equipment calibrations as required, and sends samples to an external laboratory.
• Support Environmental Permits and Reports to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Report to management any new requirement, deviation to permits and potential regulatory changes.
• Maintains environmental records, manages environmental sampling, reports monitoring results, and recommends control measures to management.
• Oversight of the operation of the Waste Water Treatment Plant and Water Recycling System to facilitate regulatory compliance and reporting to agencies
• Maintains employee exposure record, notifies the employee, reports monitoring results, and recommends exposure control measures to management.
• Classifies, handles and disposes of hazardous waste, pharmaceutical waste, and medical waste in compliance with all company standards and regulatory agencies.
• Review the Hazard Communication program, including annual SDS updates and the inventory of chemical substances, to ensure compliance.
• Conducts fitting tests for employees and calibrates equipment for all regulatory monitoring practices.
6. Maintains statistics, develops reports, and files official reports with regulatory agencies.
7. Participate in process hazard reviews of new and existing equipment to address environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety issues.
8. Provides guidance for the proper selection of personal protective equipment.
9. Support the emergency response team to ensure the facility is prepared in the event of an emergency.
10. Support the departmental safety self-inspections program.
11. Support safety programs such as confined spaces, lockout / tagout, electrical safety, fall protection, fire protection and among others.
12. Support the contractor qualification program to ensure censurers meet minimum EHS requirements before offerings to Client.
13. Support the incident investigations program to determine the root cause, develop an action plan to avoid recurrence, and follow up to ensure improvements.
14. Keeps abreast of current technologies and regulatory trends.
15. Performs other related duties, as required.
