SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson's environmental management efforts on a large scale Civil infrastructure project, and additional projects in the future, providing a review of environmental documentation, and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures, and completing actions necessary for environmental compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement Mortenson’s environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and promulgate environmental compliance of construction activities.
- Develop site-specific environmental plans and activities
- Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings
- Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
- Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs
- Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management
- Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections
- Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial, and local) reporting and documentation requirements
- Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures
- Interacted with customers' environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, etc.
- Assist in the development of company-wide Environmental Management supportive programs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of four years of related experience
- Stormwater experience on large-scale civil projects, including experience with SWPPP inspections and implementation, and a focus on solutions
- Working knowledge of material and waste management, including characterization and disposal
- Wetlands/surface waters and Section 401/404 compliance experience is strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of cultural resources, chemical tracking (EPCRA reporting), and/or spill prevention control countermeasures experience is preferred
- Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- A well-organized and self-directed individual who is collaborative and a team player
- Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies
- Ability to use PC, tablets, and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word)
- Current driver’s license
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or related field
