Maintenance Technician
The Maintenance Technician position requires a basic knowledge of maintenance and construction to include, but not limited to carpentry, roofing, small and large engine maintenance and repair, automotive, tractor, golf cart and lawn equipment maintenance and repair, fencing, painting and basic electrical and plumbing. The schedule for this position is Fri-Sun. 7:00am - 4:00pm.
Essential Duties:
- Preventative maintenance of all buildings, utilities, mechanical/electrical systems, pathways/roadways, fences and equipment.
- Basic working knowledge of carpentry, roofing, painting, electrical and plumbing
- Maintenance on all vehicles, boats and service of engines.
- Working knowledge of small and large engine maintenance and repair, automotive, tractor, golf cart and lawn equipment maintenance and repair.
- Work with animal care staff to schedule and perform maintenance on exhibits.
- Assist with construction of new projects and renovations of existing as planned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 18 years old.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to communicate (verbal and written) clearly between all departments
- Recognize hazards involving traffic and other potential hazards in parking lots, on sidewalks or Zoo pathways and open spaces.
- Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries, requests or complaints from guests and/or staff in a kind and courteous manner.
- Must be able to communicate with guests and staff clearly and effectively.
- Basic knowledge in the following areas: carpentry; roofing; small and large engine maintenance and repair; automotive, tractor, golf cart and lawn equipment maintenance and repair; fencing; painting, basic electrical and plumbing is preferred
- Must have the ability to operate a variety of light and heavy machinery, small engines and vehicles.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working in a maintenance field is preferred.
- Multi-lingual is a plus.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Must have the ability to work flexible hours, including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings.
