The Yard Supervisor is a working supervisor role and will primarily be responsible for directing the daily work activities of all yard personnel. You will provide leadership and direction in yard organization, inventory handling and control, the promotion of a safe working environment, obtainment of operational goals, and backing up the General Manager as needed. This position requires the flexibility to work 40+ hours per week, and on Saturday’s as needed/required. Experience with operation of heavy equipment such as Loaders, Forklift for loading Rail Cards. Also experience in cut grades, torching and shearing
Responsibilities of a Yard Supervisor
- Mentor, lead, and direct all yard personnel.
- Partner with the General Manager on the development of daily operational plans and the assignment of employees to meet stated goals.
- Set example for, and monitor employees for adherence to, safety, quality, and environmental goals and guidelines.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient operations of all yard activities in meeting quality and operational goals.
- Supervise yard operations to include the loading and unloading, sorting, and processing of all scrap materials.
- Responsible for interacting effectively and respectfully with all yard personnel, customers, clients, and visitors.
- Back up General Manager as needed with all employee training, operations and EHS audits and inspections, and other duties as needed.
Qualifications of a Yard Supervisor
- High School Diploma, or GED; bachelor's or associate degree in a related field of study preferred.
- Must pass a Physical and Drug screen
- Must pass background check
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in the scrap metal or related industry
- 2+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial manufacturing or production setting preferred.
- Ability and willingness to work in an outdoor environment and in all types of weather.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal).
- Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
- Experience with operation of heavy equipment such as Loaders, Forklift for loading Rail Cards
- Also experience in cut grades, torching and shearing
