Solar Impact is looking for a Solar Designer. In this role, you will use an initial solar PV system concept and site data to produce detailed, code-compliant, and construction-ready design packages and Bill of Materials for residential and commercial project permitting and installation. Larger commercial project design may be limited to the preparation of a Front-end Engineering and Design (FEED) package for further external detailed design.
- Lead permitting and detailed design for residential and commercial project pipeline
- Collaborate with Project Manager to complete project intake documentation at handoff
- Verify initial system layout and equipment location specified by salesperson
- Solicit additional design data that may be required
- Complete system designs for PV projects including site layout plans, mechanical racking and attachment plans, single-line electrical, communication and control system diagrams, BOS and equipment specifications, interconnection details, and compliance labeling
- Interface and provide streamlined project information and detailed BOM to procurement and project management
- Provide operations, service, and sales departments with project engineering support as needed
- Understand the optimal design applications and limitations of our standard products, and participate in the evaluation of alternate products
- Provide design package for approval and sealing by Engineer-Of-Record
- Provide approved and sealed design package to Project Co-Ordinator for permit submission
Required:
- Proficiency with computers as well as Microsoft Office suite and CAD platforms
- Must have a high attention to detail and accuracy
- Must be comfortable occasionally working on roofs
- Minimum of 2 years construction/design/service experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously
- Well-versed in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC requirements, construction practices
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
- Valid driver's license
Preferred:
- BS Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering
- NABCEP PVDP Certification
- At least 1 year of design or engineering experience related to renewable energy
- Additional experience with estimating or designing electrical systems
