JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, in the Division of Resource Management and Science, Branch of Vegetation Management. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will be in a non-pay status for 2 weeks from mid to late July. MAJOR DUTIES: Major Duties may include: Incumbent will be responsible for producing containerized plants from seed collections and cuttings and maintaining these and other plant materials received from government cooperators and private growers in good condition. Collect, clean, and store native plant materials for subsequent propagation, seeding and transplanting. Manage plants in a nursery, outplant, and provide post-planting care. Develops annual nursery and plant propagation work plan based on restoration priorities, species list, and quantities developed by supervisor. Incumbent performs the full range of supervisory duties including recruitment, selection, evaluation, and counseling for 2-4 seasonal employees and volunteers. Develops successful field and greenhouse plant propagation techniques for native species through review of scientific literature, discussions with field experts in Plants and restoration ecology, and experimentation for a limited number of species, if necessary. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Sequoia National Park is the nation's second oldest national park (established September 25, 1890) and encompasses 404,863 acres. Kings Canyon was established on March 4, 1940 and encompasses 458,847 acres.
