JOB SUMMARY: This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. MAJOR DUTIES: Design and conduct vegetation restoration and monitoring projects, using established ecological approaches and field methods. Manage and analyze complex vegetation datasets to evaluate conditions, and to collaborate with other scientists in project reporting. Coordinate an array of project objectives, including development of scopes of work for agreements and contracts, scheduling field crew work, and directing vegetation treatment actions and follow-up assessments. Facilitate team communication among employees, supervisors and resource managers. Develop and implement budgets to support project goals. Plan employee work assignments, monitor progress, and evaluate performance. Provide expert advice to natural resource managers and collaborative science partners, including review of project proposals, assessment of wildfire prevention and mitigation actions within native vegetation communities, and development of vegetation restoration plans. Written and oral communication. Summarize complex technical data and findings for presentations, publications, as well as newsletters, resource briefs and informal project updates.
