JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Denali National Park and Preserve, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. MAJOR DUTIES: This position is in the National Park Service, Alaska Region 11, and is part of the Communication Center branch of the Visitor and Resource Protection Division located in Denali National Park and Preserve. The position reports to the Communication Center Manager. The center operations are complex serving multijurisdictional all-risk incidents for 16 park units within the Alaska Region. The Alaska Region Communication Center (ARCC) operates 24 hours-a-day, 365 days a year and supports law enforcement, aviation, wildland/structural fire, medical, search and rescue, intelligence, and other emergency and routine functions on behalf of the National Park Service with other Federal, State, and Local agencies. The Supervisory Dispatcher's primary objectives are to supervise subordinate employees while ensuring seamless operations in the communication center. The Supervisory Dispatcher balances the needs of the center with the needs and well-being of dispatch staff. The Supervisory Dispatcher projects and models our mission of ensuring the safety of staff and visitors of the National Park Service in Alaska by providing a professional point-of-contact for communications and emergency services. Major duties include: Supervise subordinate employees while ensuring seamless operations in the public safety communication center. Assist the Center Manager in the development and maintenance of complex dispatch operating plans, guides, protocols, directories, operating systems, databases, intelligence sources, and other reference/training material. Ensures that staff have the skills, training, motivation, tools, and resources to be effective, resilient, and healthy in their roles within communication center. Plans and schedules work to be accomplished by subordinates, reviews work and performance, and performs employee appraisals and evaluations. Acts in a leadership role as an emergency contact and is responsive to questions and problems that staff encounter.
