Job Summary
The Loudoun County Department of Health seeks a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our dynamic team as an Environmental Health Technical Specialist. At the Loudoun Health Department, our mission is to lead the way in creating a community focused on health and wellness, and we're looking for someone who shares our passion and dedication. As the Environmental Health Technical Specialist, you will play a pivotal role within the consumer service division, operating under general supervision and serving as the 2nd District Standardization Officer (DSO). Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of program areas, including but not limited to retail food safety, recreational water safety, Hotel and Motel inspections, and oversight of Schools, among others.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Organize, supervise, and evaluate program areas such as retail food safety, recreational water safety, Hotel and Motel, Schools, and others.
- Provide administrative review and technical supervision for information technology projects supporting environmental health initiatives.
- Mentor and train environmental health specialists and serve as a subject matter expert for members of the public.
- Conduct complex environmental health reviews of plans submitted by the private sector and collaborate with other Environmental Health Specialists in plan reviews to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Train and standardize all Environmental Health Specialists within the division.
- Contribute to extending the development of division goals and objectives, overseeing compliance and enforcement actions, maintaining Environmental Health databases, analyzing data, and reporting findings.
- Build and nurture relationships with county, state, and federal agencies and various boards to assist with strategic planning and achieving environmental health goals.
- May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Public Health, Environmental Health, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field; three (3) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Certified Professional is preferred.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Pass pre-employment background checks to include fingerprinting and DMV checks. Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification); additional license if required by law for position or assigned department.
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a certified pool operator license when required for job-related duties
- Must have completed training and maintain the following credential: Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Certified Food Safety Standardization office
- Failure to maintain the credentials required for program assignment may result in termination of employment.
