DescriptionThis Associate Operational Risk - Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) role is for a subject matter expert dedicated to partnering with various stakeholders and teams to evaluate and manage EHS risk of investments across different divisions and businesses throughout the asset lifecycle. This role will be responsible for evaluating, identifying, mitigating and managing EHS risk across the firm, with a strong focus on Health and Safety and commodities.
Responsibilities:
- Manage EHS due diligence projects for acquisitions and investments by supporting deal teams to understand the inherent EHS risks on each engagement
- Scope EHS requirements for due diligence and management projects
- Manage EHS consultants and solicit bids from GS-approved vendors
- Review, interpret and edit technical EHS reports, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, historical reports, regulatory agency assessments, health-risk assessments and root-cause analysis reports
- Evaluate potential exposure risks from hazardous building materials or conditions including asbestos containing materials, lead-based paint, polychlorinated biphenyls, vapor intrusion and suspect microbial growth
- Identify and quantify EHS liabilities and risks and effectively communicate critical information to internal stakeholders
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including deal teams, Legal, Construction, Compliance and ESG teams about required mitigation and ongoing oversight and management
- Complete formal internal review memo, or similar, for each project
- Manage projects and subsequent requirements through internal database application
- Oversee environmental remediation or health and safety uplift projects for owned assets
- Provide related advisory services to various groups within the Firm’s business lines
- Provide support and training to a wide range of teams and partners to increase knowledge and efficiency
- Review legal language in various types of documents surrounding environmental considerations and assist with drafting protective language
- Prioritize and lead multiple projects and assignments concurrently
Qualifications
- 5-7+ years of relevant environmental or health & safety experience
- Preferred technical skillset in Health & Safety and commodities (Oil &Gas primarily)
- Strong client/stakeholder management skills with effective interpersonal and presentation skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to adapt verbal and written communication to audience
- Project management skills, including monitoring and reporting project performance
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong delivery focus
- Ability to work in a team environment and knowledge share with other colleagues within team, and support team development
- Strong drive and sense of self-initiative
- Possess a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in a science-related field
