The School of Architecture in the College of Architecture Planning and Public Affairs ( CAPPA ), at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor focusing on Emerging Design & Sustainability. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The UTA School of Architecture (SoA) welcomes applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2025. The SoA is seeking a dynamic and collaborative candidate who can contribute to the School’s focus on Emerging Design Technologies & Sustainability. Successful candidates should submit evidence exhibiting the potential to advance the discipline of architectural education and develop innovative curricula. Candidates should also provide a clear research agenda based on peer-reviewed publications of academic/professional/creative work and specify in what way emerging technologies related to sustainability would be integral to their research and teaching. Areas of Emphasis Successful candidates need to submit a structured research statement describing a trajectory for their research/creative work, articulating overarching questions, objectives, and methods in one of the following focus areas: Digital Design & Technology Exploration of sustainable approaches within digital design processes, including computational design, digital fabrication methods, energy-efficient generative design, climate-responsive design, the integration of augmented and virtual reality, data-driven design methodologies including data analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for sustainable design. Ecological Design & Resilience Investigation into how architecture is integrated into environmental systems and promotes sustainability, covering topics like life-cycle analysis, sustainable material choices, material optimization, strategies for enhancing resilience to environmental changes, adaptive reuse of existing structures, biophilic design, and regenerative design practices that restore and enhance ecosystems. Urban Design & Sustainability Exploration of the role of architecture in developing sustainable urban environments, including sustainable infrastructure and networks, smart city initiatives, eco-friendly technologies, circular economy in the built environment, environmental justice, climate change, urban design, ecology, geography, and planning with a focus on environmental impact, and sustainable solutions.
Required Qualifications
An accredited, terminal degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field Demonstrated excellence in teaching design courses Evidence of success in research and/or creative work

Evidence of exceptional design work and visual communication skills Evidence of the ability to obtain external funding Demonstrated interdisciplinary collaboration Professional licensure or demonstrated professional experience A PhD or advanced research degree in a relevant area of expertise
