The Opportunity:
The University of Central Florida's Environmental Health and Safety Office is seeking an experienced EH&S professional with proven leadership experience to serve as the Director. Reporting to the Vice President for Compliance, Ethics, and Risk this position is responsible for overseeing the university's Environmental Health and Safety Program (EH&S). This responsibility includes ensuring that the EH&S program is compliant with federal, state, and local requirements and for building a collaborative approach with stakeholders both internal and external to UCF.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to the department and ensure that the program aligns fully with the elements of an effective compliance program including appropriate monitoring and inspections, policies and procedures, training, communication, response to inquiries and incidents, and that appropriate corrective actions or improvements to safety on campus are implemented.
Responsibilities:
Oversees the EH&S program, including the laboratory safety, chemical safety, radiation safety, environmental safety and biomedical safety programs, and ensures that the program is implemented to comply with applicable laws, regulations and policies and the elements of an effective compliance program.
Manages the day-to-day activities of the EH&S department and units, including supervision of direct reports. The Director also manages the department within budget and forecasts future budgetary and resource needs for the department and university to meet applicable compliance regulations.
Assesses environmental and laboratory risks for the university and provide appropriate recommendations for remediation.
Serves as a resource and assists researchers, administrators and university leadership with regards to health and safety requirements and issues.
Serves as the university's liaison to external regulatory agency personnel in the area of environmental health and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading an EH&S program at a higher education research institution.
In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local laws applicable to environmental and laboratory safety programs including biosafety, chemical safety, hazardous waste, laboratory safety, and environmental safety.
Experience working with regulatory agencies.
Ability to work collaboratively across an organization and build relationships.
Excellent leadership and communication skills and the ability to address the needs of a complex research institution.
