POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Director, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for working with existing grants and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to execute all grant tasks and communicate with granting agencies as appropriate. Additionally, they will be tasked with providing administrative and clerical support to the Environmental Department. The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling meetings for the department, coordinating travel, ordering supplies including purchases listed under grants.
The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for tracking data for solid waste management and restoration projects, coordinating outreach events and assisting the Environmental Department in achieving its goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Environmental planning and document writing.
- Work with existing grants and communicate with US EPA and other granting agencies in order to complete all assigned grant tasks.
- Coordinate Environmental Departments schedules including employee schedules including meetings, training and out of office notifications.
- Schedules and sets up meetings.
- Facilitates ongoing communications between staff members, including location of personnel on a day to day basis.
- Coordinates travel for department trainings.
- Receives information/ documents on behalf of the department and ensures that they are routed in a timely manner.
- Submit all receipts and signed purchase requisitions to the finance department.
- Drafts outreach materials for the department.
- Assists with planning and implementation of Environmental outreach activities.
- Grant administration including researching grant opportunities and reporting on current grants.
- Research and obtain waste tracking software.
- Track amounts of solid waste that is collected and recycled from tribal land.
- Maintain inventory of plants grown for restoration projects.
- Track progress and billing for restoration contracts.
- Assist Environmental staff with seed collection and the implementation of restoration plans.
- Assist with mapping areas of environmental concern and generating maps for the department.
- Attend meetings with outside agencies and report back to Environmental Director.
- Write environmental reports and documents as required by grants.
- Track department spending in accordance with grant budgets.
- Track grant procurement requirements and ensure that purchases are in compliance with federal standards.
- Attending public events, fairs and meetings to promote the organization and its mission
- May involve travel and/or long hours and weekends in a variety of field conditions
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree in Environmental Sciences or related field with at least 2 years of experience in an office clerical and/or administrative support position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two (2) years of demonstrated work experience using Microsoft Office (including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
- Must have a valid CA driver’s license and qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance
- Must have experience working with and analyzing large data sets.
- Possess solid knowledge of California native plants, solid waste issues and other Environmental topics.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental laws and regulations as well as best practices.
- Experience and knowledge of grant researching, reporting and planning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with tribes.
- Bachelors Degree in Environmental Sciences or related field.
- Advanced knowledge of California native plants, solid waste issues and other Environmental topics.
- Administrative experience in the Environmental field.
NATIVE PREFERENCE
Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
