As an Environmental Health Safety and Security (EHSS) Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to integrate your knowledge and theory from the classroom with practical application in a chemical manufacturing environment. THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the EHSS Manager, the EHSS Intern will:
- Partner with EHSS professionals at the Manufacturing Plant and Corporate level to gain key insights on successful EHSS strategies.
- Complete meaningful EHSS-related projects assigned by the EHSS Manager. Examples of previous projects include:
- Developing and implementing a new contractor safety program with training
- Updating labeling system throughout the manufacturing plant
- Working with vendors to engineer solutions for fall protection
- Coordinating industrial hygiene studies
- Formulate general EHSS policies and measures to be followed by company or plant personnel and recommend priorities for improvement.
- Inspect or tour company facilities to detect potential safety, health, or environmental hazards and recommend corrective or preventive measures where indicated.
- Provide guidance to supervisors in the investigation of incidents and cooperate in the preparation of materials. Assist in compiling and submitting incident reports where required.
- Consult with all departments on design and use of equipment, new products and processes, workplace ergonomics, and other EHSS programs.
THE QUALIFICATIONS
The right candidate will be a self-directed, analytical, and organized individual who shows strong attention to detail. Your credentials ideally include:
- Undergraduate students currently enrolled in at least their sophomore year pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Ability to maintain composure while handling confidential or sensitive information.
- Communication skills that show an ability to be a collaborative team player with a can-do attitude.
- Strong work ethic and ability to meet project deadlines.
