Job Description
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Plant Engineering Manager, this role is part of the Plant Maintenance Team within Site Operations responsible for undertaking essential preventative maintenance tasks within the group to ensure the facility and all plant is maintained effectively in terms of statutory requirements including health and safety, cost, quality, and delivery in support of the overall business strategy.
The working pattern for this role will be 37 hours per week spread across Tuesday to Friday, and then a half day on Saturday and Monday. Note that the half day on Monday could be changed to another weekday if preferred.
This role also includes plant breakdown support as necessary, including out of hours.
The Environmental Waste Controller will be specifically responsible for the management, monitoring, and day to day maintenance of the Effluent Waste Treatment plant that treats all the site’s process wastewater.
The role is also responsible for the management of the Waste and Recycling Centre on site in conjunction with Teledyne’s external waste processing partners, ensuring a safe, efficient, and effective waste stream solution for the disposal and recycling of all hazardous and non-hazardous waste products generated by site-based processes and projects.
- To provide strong, professional knowledge and technical ability to manage, monitor and maintain the existing Effluent Waste Treatment Plant and other plant and equipment required for the needs of the business.
- To provide technical support with regards to waste management, and quality service to other areas of the business.
- To commit to being part of the on call Incident Response Team for site, becoming point of contact for Effluent Waste Treatment Plant breakdowns and capable of supporting other potential incidents on site, such as chemical spill and clean up.
- To manage and control allocated Preventative Maintenance tasks on Effluent Waste Treatment plant maximising utilisation ensuring any potential risks are identified, managed, and proactively communicated to the Plant Engineering Manager.
- To ensure all statutory/legal maintenance tasks adhere to company procedures, policies, business ethical standards and legal requirements at all times, in particular compliance with HSE and EA governance.
- To ensure controls/alarms/service agreements are maintained with subcontract suppliers for both the Effluent Waste Treatment Plant and external waste management partners ensuring adherence to agreed costs and compliance with company procedures.
- To assist in the development of the Waste and Recycling Area, and best practices within Facilities Management by adopting new technology and seeking out and applying continuous improvement techniques.
Skills & Experience Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum of NVQ (3) or equivalent in Mechanical and/or Electrical engineering is essential.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within a facilities maintenance role is essential, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience of working with Effluent Waste Treatment Plant or chemical wastewater systems is essential. However, candidates with good experience of chemical handling and/or mechanical services systems may be considered, and appropriate training given.
- Experience of managing waste and recycling streams at a large manufacturing plant is advantageous, in particular experience of working with external waste processing partners.
- Experience of chemical handling is advantageous, although training will be given to candidates that fulfil other requirements of the role.
- Experience of working with electrical distribution systems is desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of Preventative Maintenance.
- Knowledge of and adherence to safe working practices in line with HSE policy, Risk Assessment and COSHH procedures.
- Ability to drive a forklift truck is advantageous although training will be given to candidates that fulfil other requirements of the role and do not already have a forklift truck driving licence.
- Must be medically fit and will be expected to undertake and pass a Safety Critical medical on site. The Environmental Waste Controller will also be expected to undertake and pass breathing apparatus and confined space training.
- Able to work Saturday mornings and to be able to attend site out of hours.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
