Job Summary:
The Interior Designer role will be focused on the design and development of theme parks and themed environments. This position entails a variety of immersive spaces including F&B, retail, BOH, FOH, and common guest areas. The Interior Designer will be responsible for creating conceptual designs, then further developing those designs into the next design phases, organizing design packages, while following program and budget requirements. Designers should be able to thematically and knowledgeably integrate and coordinate with other disciplines including technical and operational requirements, structural facility and engineering, plumbing, HVAC, media, lighting, A/V, special effects, props, scenic elements, animations etc. A general working knowledge of themed fabrication and installation methods is preferred, but not required.
The Interior Designer role requires working with multiple disciplines in a collaborative studio environment and works to create functionally safe and aesthetically themed spaces through a working knowledge of space planning, adjacencies, the optimal placement and integration of fixtures, furniture, retail shelving, or other components in order to optimize guest circulation paths and the overall functionality of the space. The Interiors role will have a focus on selecting materials, finishes and the customization of fabricated elements, researching, and providing specifications for fixtures, furniture, materials, and finishes overall. In addition to preparing presentations, creating drawing design documents, collaborating with vendors, clients, and the IP.
Essential Functions:
Can research and understand thematically appropriate materials, finishes, uses, and the proper applications of those products in a themed environment. Has a good sense of color theory and aesthetics, that will also meet the client’s needs, budget, and IP requirements, while optimizing the guest experience.
- Research concepts and materials to support the show set design team on technical issues influencing all phases of development. Maintain current knowledge of thematic trends and/or theatrical materials, techniques, or other developments in themed interior design.
- Participates in design charrettes, IP/client reviews and presentations, VE/reductions, scheduling, picking up redlines/design review sessions, and collaborates directly with vendors or other disciplines.
- Ability to hand sketch concepts, and design fully rendered interior elevations, plans and details via 2D/3D software.Demonstrates analytical and critical thinking, has problem-solving skills, and can pay close attention to detail.
- Produce documentation such as mood boards to communicate design intent. Research look & feel reference imagery, and textures, materials, samples, andprovides innovative design solutions.
- Maintains a holistic perspective of the design from a project-wide lens when selecting thematic materials, colors, textures, and finishes.
- Knowledge and application of a wide range of building codes, regulations, building systems, facility integration, safety, fire/egress, circulation, life plans, and spatial allocations.
- Exhibits daily discipline and time management skills towards meeting deadlines.
- Reviews consultant and vendors drawings, and specifications for materials and furnishings to ensure that items meet the standards of the client/IP.
- Ability to read, analyze,write, and interpret constructiondrawings, building codes, material specification guidelines and the proper application or adhesion of products or materials.
- Ability to provide mathematical figures, costs and take-offs, square footage, linear feet, percentages, ratios, or other calculations as needed.
- Candidates enjoy working in a studio team environment and can interact well with others while working on large group projects. Can effectively and openly communicate with others.
- InteriorDesign positions are non-routine and candidates should be able to adapt to changes and direction quickly and may be provided with opportunities to work on a myriad of projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s degree in Themed Entertainment, Interior Design, Theater, Art, or Design. 2-5 years of theme park development, theatrical experience, and or hospitality related design. *Those with Theme Park development and design package experience would be preferred. A combination of experience and education will also be considered. Strong portfolio of design work required.
Software:
Preferred software knowledge includes strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCad, Rhino, Adobe Photoshop, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Suite. Working knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, 3DsMax, SketchUp, and 3D rendering in general is a plus.
