Job Description
Reporting to the ESRA Manager, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the oversight on the implementation of the Environmental and Social Risks frameworks, including the alignment to the Credit processes.
- Provide input into the budgeting process and monitor utilisation for the financial year according to the operational plan
- Produce or review budget reports to make sure they accurately reflect work activity
- Ensure financial documentation is maintained to support accurate record keeping and future legislative requirements
- Escalate potential budget risks that may lead to increased costs or financial losses
- Present work proposals on planned activities that will require financial resources
- Allocate and approves expenditure
- Collate, analyse and evaluate data and information to forecast expenditure and cash flow trends and make recommendations to improve budget
- Deliver against operational and cost targets
- Prioritise resource allocation to minimise and reduce wastage
- Monitor costs for the financial year according to the operational plan
- Allocates and approves expenditure
- Review cost reports and resolves or explains variances to the budget
- Identify, control and escalate potential risks that may lead to increased costs
- Manage costs or expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies

- Collect and interrogate information and feedback to ensure full understanding of customer needs to deliver a quality service

- Provide customers with relevant information to keep them informed of products and service options
- Build relationships that allow for the managing of expectations; the sharing of knowledge and diverse insights; and the creation of buy-in
- Engage in cross-functional relationships to obtain and to provide work support
- Provide specialist advice, guidance, and appropriate system/technical support to FNB Botswana and external stakeholders pertaining to compliance with technical environmental regulatory requirements and the ESRA process. In doing this, develop strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent FNB Botswana in terms of environmental affairs, on various committees internally and externally when required but as a minimum at the FirstRand Environmental Forum quarterly meetings and forums.
- Improving requisite controls and seamless application of the ESRA process across FNB Botswana.
- Review production pipeline management and reports.
- Formalization of these controls and their application in line with FirstRand Limited’s ESRA Procedure.
- Escalate issues and unresolved queries to the FNBB ESRA specialist Manager.
- Performing Environmental and Social Risk Assessments on High Risk financing deals and managing external consultants when third party project reviews are required about Equator Principal transactions.
- Keeping abreast of any legislative changes to prepare and conduct successful and relevant analysis and legal assurance monitoring.
- Updating the Legal framework for environmental and social issues on a regular basis.
- Involvement in the review of the performance of environmental related projects that fall under FNB Botswana.
- Managing, monitoring, and reporting the environmental aspects of FNB’s sustainability’s reporting such ‘Number of Equator Principal deals reviewed’, ‘Number of Equator Principles deals financed’, ‘Number of ESRA deals reviewed’, ‘Number of ESRA deals financed’.
- Manage own development to increase own competencies.
- To identify stakeholders' learning requirements about ESRA within FNB Botswana and to make appropriate learning interventions, awareness, presentations, training, and ongoing monitoring available to stakeholders and affected businesses.
- Be part of the sustainability steerco.
Key requirement (Education, experience, and skills)
- Qualification: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science.
- Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in implementing and leading environmental management/ environmental law, sustainability assurance and ESG.
