GEON Performance Solutions has an excellent opportunity for an EH&S Specialist at the Croydon, PA facility.
Position Summary
Maintain the health, safety, and environmental compliance of the plant workforce by monitoring and evaluation of health, safety, environmental and security conditions assuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures and governmental standards; and maintenance of the GEON Health, Industrial Hygiene and Safety Programs. The position covers both the manufacturing and R&D facilities.
Position Responsibilities
- Develops and administers effective occupational health, safety, ergonomics and industrial hygiene programs, including health services functions and maintenance of related policy and procedure manuals.
- Become knowledgeable in GEON and industry best practices and incorporate in local site programs.
- Educates, motivates and trains line supervision and production personnel in good housekeeping practices, safe work procedures, PPE, etc.
- Uses specialized testing equipment, samples, measures, and evaluates employee exposures to in-plant chemical contaminants and physical agents such as heat and noise exposure.
- Administers the audiometric testing and hearing conservation programs.
- Leads administration of medical surveillance and biological monitoring programs according to OSHA standards and company policies and procedures.
- Manages the plant personal protective equipment, work clothing and safety equipment programs according to company standards and operating budget.
- Administers the respiratory protection program, including quantitative fit testing, respirator distribution, cleaning and sanitizing.
- Facilitates in administration of the workers’ compensation program, including effective medical case management, reporting, record maintenance and follow-up.
- Facilitates and implements effective plant programs for the identification, prevention and control of occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Develops and coordinates plant health and safety education and training programs.
- Leads the plant safety committee.
- Maintains current awareness of applicable federal, state and local health, industrial hygiene, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintains legal, governmental and company environmental, health, medical and safety-related records according to standards, including confidentiality.
- Maintains an accurate OSHA 300 log. Accompanies visiting inspectors and reports findings.
- Administers the plant hazard communication program, including maintaining up-to-date SDS’s, effective identification of all chemicals, chemical inventory and related training and education programs.
- Reviews all manufacturing and support operations to assure ongoing safety.
- Assists the line organization in conducting risk assessments and developing safe operating procedures for all tasks and in investigating incidents.
- Develops and implements audit programs to review and assure compliance with applicable health and safety standards and systems.
- Prepare and submit Environmental Reports – TRI, Tier II, etc.
- Oversee, update and maintain all environmental programs and permits– SPCC, SWPPP, Air permits, etc.
- Overtime is required to meet internal and external customer requirements.
- The position requires significant time on the shop floor in a manufacturing setting and includes traversing industrial stairs on regular basis.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science Degree or Technical discipline in Safety or Environmental Compliance
- Minimum of 3 years in field or an advanced degree and comparable experience
- Minimum 3 years manufacturing experience

Preferred Qualifications
- Trained/certified in Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing techniques. Green Belt or Black Belt Certification highly desired.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar EHS certifications preferred.
- Familiarity with Safety Systems (e.g., DuPont Stop, etc), Lean Manufacturing, Manufacturing Process Control, Six Sigma.
- Experience with Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
- Experience with running Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) programs
- Strong understanding of EPA regulations and experience implementing compliance
- Experience with Responsible Care Management Systems (RCMS)
