BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sustainability Program Manager will be a key member of the EC&S Department focused specifically on supporting the development and implementation of strategies and goals around MSC’s Sustainability program. This role will lead and have primary responsibility for engaging stakeholders on ESG topics and ESG actions material to MSC & our business mission. This role will have responsibility for synthesizing ESG information from across the organization to be indexed within ESG frameworks and into MSC’s Sustainability Report. The other core action being the design, implementation, and sustainment of MSC’s Sustainability program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with the Executive Sponsors, ESG (i.e., Sustainability) Council, and Corporate Communication develop the narratives for MSC’s Sustainability strategy and initiatives, tailoring for our stakeholder audiences.
Collaborate with cross functional teams to determine and prioritize the Company’s near-term and long-range Sustainability objectives to coordinate cross functional actions into an overall Sustainability strategic plan; including the facilitation of periodic ESG “materiality” assessments and change management within the organization (starting within EC&S Department) to achieve continuous improvement.
Monitor and analysis established Sustainability metrics and prepare briefings for internal stakeholders, leadership, and the board of directors on ESG trends and sentiments inclusive of industry peer analysis and leading company benchmarks with the purpose of advancing MSC’s Sustainability Program.
Lead, manage, and collaborate on Sustainability project of all size & scope end-to-end (i.e. developing project milestones, gathering business requirements and functional specs, developing budgets, delivering guidelines and requirements, refining scope to meet deadlines, tracking dependencies, and facilitating change management). Including but not exclusively EMS programs within MSC sites.
Work with leadership to establish and monitor ESG target goals (e.g., SBTi and Net Zero), initiatives, and KPIs.
Ensure Sustainability initiatives are progressing in accordance with Sustainability Strategy and Targets by maintaining the Sustainability roadmap and project plan, driving accountability for achievement of goals and metrics.
Monitor global ESG trends, frameworks, & disclosure legislation, providing insights to leadership and recommending program changes, and educating internal stakeholders.
Identify Key ESG Rating agencies & frameworks that are material, coordinating responses to surveys, and publications to frameworks, (e.g., SASB, TCFD, GRI, CDP, EcoVadis, and ISS QualityScore) and responding selectively to stakeholder requests regarding social environmental impacts and green initiatives.
Coordinate the sourcing, collection, and validation of ESG data and content for reporting and responses to stakeholder queries. Supporting the preparedness for and execution of both internal and external assurance for reporting. Supporting the training of other EC&S associates to be able to handle ESG questionnaires, requests, etc.
Increase general awareness of MSC’s ESG commitments and progress to external stakeholders.
Establish and coordinate strategy on developing, refining, and advancing ESG communication including the following.
Works with Corporate Communication to contribute to the creation of internal and external communication plans to advance ESG related initiatives; including the ownership for the ESG Report and Sustainability webpages, working with internal stakeholders to build and refresh.
Coordinate with Finance and Investor Relations to execute a coherent ESG strategy to articulate to investors via assistance in drafting the ESG content of the annual proxy statement, Forms 10K and 10Q, responses to shareholder proposals, and other shareholder facing materials
Provides guidance to Specialist and Sr Coordinators on development and preparation of company procedures, including the effective delivery of training for those procedures.
Trains Specialists, Coordinators, and Senior Coordinators on all processes and systems used for Sustainability and Environmental Management System within the organization.
Lead the establishment, implementation, and sustainment of Environmental Management System (EMS) for MSC’s sites (CFCs, CSC, etc.)
Ensure that each EMS through strong cross-functional relationship has engagement and collaboration from stakeholders in each facility (e.g. EMS owner, site champion, etc.) and that the operation’s associates are trained, engaged, and executing the EMS procedures.
Ensure that each EMS maintains the proper procedure and/or process documentation, file management, and keeps it current through producing the technical documents and/or coaching EC&S associates in the technical writing.
Responsibility for the establishment of the audit protocols and procedures for an EMS, ensuring the proper & timeliness of the audits’ execution for certification (e.g. ISO 14001) of the EMS.
Leads EMS audits and inspections at sites. Assists sites with continuous improvement and corrective action plans, following plans through to completion, reviewing and assessing compliance records for performance of MSC sites.
Stays current with EC&S department training and mandated regulatory training. Obtains and maintains current certifications and/or required training for this position.
Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Need:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Sustainability, Climate Change Accounting, Environmental Science, or other related field, with a minimum of six years of applicable sustainability or statutory reporting experience required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite® including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook required. Intermediate proficiency in Excel is required.
Demonstrated experience in ESG/Sustainability and decarbonization, including the development & executing of strategies, initiatives, and narratives to support a company’s ESG, Sustainability, and decarbonization maturity.
Demonstrated experience in GHG emissions reporting standards/frameworks such as GHG Protocol, SBTi, EU CSRD, GRI, CDP, ISSB, TCFD, etc.
Proficient in corporate communication regarding ESG/Sustainability programs and developing ESG/Sustainability Reports.
Relevant experience in GHG/ESG assurance in line with ISO 14064-3, ISAE 3000 (revised), and AA1000 assurance standard.
Knowledge of ESG concepts and practices across sectors/geographies, including examples like climate risk assessments, materiality assessments, Life Cycle, ethical supply chain assessments, etc.
Excels in leading project management and change management - delivering on-time, on-budget and achieving high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment
Ability to effectively utilize experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, organizational and analytical skills are required.

Bonus Points If You Have:
Preferred Master of Science Sustainability, Climate change accounting, Environmental Science, or other related field with 8 years demonstrable experience working in sustainability or statutory reporting
Recognized third party certification a plus.
Demonstrated experience establishing, implementing, controlling and maintaining an EMS is desired and demonstrated leadership in implementation of an ISO 14001 certification of EMS is preferred.
Experience in writing technical policies and procedures is desired

Compensation starting at $72100 - $113300 depending on experience.
