Your Job
The Fleet Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of the general maintenance and upkeep of TZMI vehicles including trucks, vans, and electric and gas-powered golf carts, attractions including train and carousel, and heavy equipment. This position will also assist with projects and priorities of the Operations department as required.
Your Essential Responsibilities

- Supervise and direct the completion of work orders, projects, and assignments of mechanic staff.
- Monitor inventory of materials/supplies/equipment needed for department; determine/order type and quantity of materials/supplies/equipment; authorize expenditures of department under supervision of Operations Manager.
- Inspect zoo automobiles, trucks, golf carts, attractions and related equipment to locate and determine the extent of necessary repair.
- Perform general repair work on gasoline, diesel, and electric powered engines such as golf carts, automobiles, trucks, tractors, attractions, and other automotive and mechanical equipment with the goals of safety, minimizing downtime, and saving repair costs.
- Perform preventive maintenance work on fleet and attractions according to preset preventative maintenance schedule. Work with Operations Facilities Manager to make changes to preventative maintenance schedule as required or recommended.
- Maintain and monitor service/maintenance records of vehicles, attractions, and equipment.
- Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related parts.
- Repair cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems; tune engines using standard testing equipment.
- Perform vehicle body work and collision repair.
- Operate vehicles and equipment to aid in diagnostics; pick up and deliver vehicles.
- Requisition supplies, parts and equipment; monitor inventory; pick up supplies; load and unload supplies.
- Maintain clean and clutter free shops and work areas involving general cleaning duties.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests as directed.
- Work with Operations Facilities Manager and Safety Manager to create, revise, monitor, and evaluate TZMI’s Standard Operating Procedures and training for entire fleet including but not limited to attractions and heavy equipment to ensure the safety of the zoo’s animals, animal care staff, public, and Operations team.
- Effectively communicate and demonstrate interpersonal skills with all levels of employees in a clear and professional manner.

- Know and follow zoo policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and assigned training sessions.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises up to 2 Mechanics in accordance with TZMI’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
What We Expect
Required Qualifications, Education and/or Experience
- Must be 18 years or older, possess a valid driver’s license, and be insurable on TZMI’s insurance carrier
- Must be able to work weekends and evenings
- No education requirement; one to three years related experience and/or training
- Must have broad knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair; principles and practices of gasoline and diesel engine repair and maintenance; and methods and techniques of welding and fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees of TZMI, and the general public
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft PowerPoint or Prezi; common Internet browsers; experience with work order system preferred
