Job Description
Position: Senior Energy Storage Engineer
Location: Remote or Nashville, TN (strongly preferred)
Overview: As a Senior Energy Storage Engineer, you will lead utility-scale solar energy storage projects at Silicon Ranch. You will contribute your unique expertise and industry experience in support of technically and economically advanced project designs and proposals. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, cost-efficient designs in support of our energy storage systems. The position will interface with Procurement, Project Development, Business Development, Project Engineering, finance, Substation Engineering, and Interconnection management teams to provide design and technical support for energy storage systems.
Main Responsibilities:
- Subject Matter Expert (SME), for energy storage Systems.
- Self-perform and/or oversee consultants in development of detailed layout designs, energy modeling, constructability and due diligence support for SRC’s development of energy storage systems. Evaluate project constraints, Energy storage technology, Battery Management systems, energy management systems and plant controller systems.
- Assist in the development of Energy Storage Systems sizing and configurations for SRC Pipeline
- Assist business development and project finance with cost estimating and PPA pricing recommendations based off BESS technology selection and proposals.
- Assist Project management with commissioning and operational support for BESS.
- Responsible for supporting project development, Project Engineering, Substation Engineering with preliminary design efforts and interconnection points.
- Assist with Development of layout optimization tools which include estimating values based on O&M, Engineering, and construction feedback loops.
- Participate in major Energy Storage equipment selection, technical vetting, and contracting.
- Support project engineering and substation teams with technical review of designs and construction interface points.
- Conduct site visits to support site evaluations, suitability and due diligence permitting efforts.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of codes standards and industry expectations for Energy storage projects.
- Assist in the management of relationships with various equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task while managing multiple projects and engineering team initiatives.
- Conduct site visits during construction and assisting commissioning of BESS
Reporting: EVP, Innovation Development
Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required; Additional educational qualifications such as master’s degree, a PE or PMP desired.
Experience:
- 10+ years of energy storage experience required. Solar Power Plant, substation, and utility experience is a plus.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Utility scale battery energy storage system design and installation experience required.
- Experience with commissioning, operations, and testing of bidirectional inverter control systems strongly preferred.
- Experience in commissioning, operations, and testing of Li-ion and other battery chemistry strongly preferred.
- Experience in HMI, EMS, and SCADA systems is a plus.
- Experience working for an OEM Battery suppliers a plus
- History of successful navigation and assisting with environmental permitting process around BESS siting is a plus.
