POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Interconnection is generally responsible for understanding and driving implementation of interconnection and related transmission procedures in selected US regional / ISO power markets as they apply to renewable generation and battery energy storage systems. Included is utilization of PSSE / PSLF software to develop in-house interconnection screening capability for site selection and strategic revision of interconnection queue positions. Understanding of power and capacity marketing and congestion management / avoidance is a plus. The position includes opportunity for advancement into a broader and more strategic general development role on the foundation of interconnection as a fundamental initial screen for project development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsibilities include: (i) assembly and submission of interconnection requests and modifications in support of new and evolving development opportunities, (ii) review and comment on studies in a timely manner, (iii) negotiation of interconnection agreements and (iv) fulfillment of interconnection agreement milestones. Management of consultants to provide additional resources and expertise as needed including critical review and alignment of consulting efforts with internal engineering focus and direction. Case-by-case responsibilities also include project specific budget and security posting management and advocacy in support of of the interconnection function, due diligence reporting for acquisition candidates, support of project sale and financing requirements, support of the transition from development through execution to operations and support of proposals to offtakers.
Management or coordination, as needed, of acquisition of transmission rights and congestion mitigation within and across RTOs for advanced queue positions in support of project financial analysis and attendant risk management. Review of IRPs and anticipated transmission system upgrades in support of greenfield site selection and advancement is required along with support of monthly or quarterly project and / or department reporting to document alignment with and progressing key performance indicators. Being a team player is a “must.”
The Interconnection Director’s primary customer is the project development team to provide timely and cost-effective interconnection and technical solutions to fulfill market requirements for PV and BESS projects[1] along with support of responses to requests for proposals and bi-lateral offtake agreement proposals and arrangements to enable multiple offtake agreements through shared facility agreements and, other duties assigned by Management.
This position reports to the Sr. Director of Interconnection and Land Development or other designee with dotted line responsibility to project managers and strategic planners. Travel may be required but is generally limited to one to five day/nights per quarter. Remote location is permissible.
$150,000 - $225,000 a year
