OOverview:
We are seeking an experienced Resident Construction Inspector to join our team for a project in
Miami, FL. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction inspection and
quality assurance, with the ability to manage and coordinate onsite activities.
Responsibilities:
● Review schedule updates for general construction logic, identify potential conflicts, and
track activities or deliveries falling behind schedule.
● Evaluate contractor proposals for remedial actions to resolve schedule issues.
● Monitor and report on work progress, seeking assistance from Black & Veatch
professional schedulers for complex issues.
● Provide technical interpretation of construction drawings and specifications in
collaboration with the project or resident engineer.
● Assist the resident engineer in interpreting and clarifying construction requirements,
coordinating responses with project engineers and design disciplines. Write responses
for project controls assistants.
● Oversee the review, tracking, and distribution of contractor submittals, ensuring
coordination with appropriate design disciplines for technical reviews. Alert contractors
when submittals are missing or delayed.
● Interpret contract documents for Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC).
● Lead the evaluation of change requests, claims, and cost proposals from contractors,
coordinating responses with the project manager, and preparing change orders.
● Monitor and report on site conditions, particularly when contractors identify unforeseen
subsurface or other changed conditions.
● Assist in logging and tracking all issues, proposed changes, change orders, and claims.
● Manage the administration of project documentation, records, and onsite reporting.
● Ensure contractor's as-built records are accurate and complete, collecting them at the
end of the project and forwarding to the project engineer.
● Supervise and perform inspections as required; schedule and witness field testing,
including testing firms and field acceptance testing.
● Develop construction punch lists for substantial and final project completion.
● Coordinate and monitor quality assurance for all project disciplines onsite.
● Document field observations and provide regular reports.
● Serve as the onsite liaison between the owner and contractor.
● Adhere to safety, quality, and ethical standards in accordance with company policies and
contractual commitments. Supervise staff compliance.
● Anticipate potential construction issues and work proactively with all parties to expedite
solutions and mitigate project impacts.
● Review contractor payment requests and recommend approval to the owner.
● Assist with coordination of equipment startup operations and operator training, and may
manage these activities when required.
● Coordinate with project engineers or startup specialists for process startups.
● Lead the team of inspectors and may supervise additional field staff.
● Conduct pre-construction, weekly, monthly, and special construction meetings, preparing
and distributing meeting minutes.
Qualifications:
● Associate's degree in a construction-related discipline or craft apprenticeship preferred.
● Soil and concrete testing experience preferred.
● Water main line inspection or similar piping inspection experience preferred.
● Certifications for concrete, compaction, and civil tests preferred.
● Inspection certification preferred.
● 10+ years of field experience.
