JOB SUMMARY: These positions are located in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Temporary, NTE 1039 Hours. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is March - October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. MAJOR DUTIES: Some of the duties you will perform include: Lead three or more full-time employees on a regular and recurring basis in fee collection and performing assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Keep in touch with the status and progress of work and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise. Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies. Provide on the job training, mentoring, and coaching to employees, volunteers, and/or interns in accordance with established procedures and practices. Answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up. Report to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems. Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the National Park Service (NPS), answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties. Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods.
