MAJOR DUTIES: This position is located in the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), Aviation Weather Center (AWC), with one vacancy in Warrenton, VA. The working title is Lead Meteorologist. As a Lead Meteorologist, you will perform the following duties: Serve as a National Aviation Meteorologist (NAM) responsible for selecting problem-solving methods, techniques, and procedures, ensuring the quality and timeliness of all forecast products prepared. Prepare and issue national-level forecasts concerning a number of hazardous weather conditions, such as thunderstorms, winter storm, turbulence, icing, tropical cyclones, or other aviation weather warnings and forecasts. Assist in planning improvements to operational functions, developing product quality standards and new aviation meteorological products. Provide direct aviation decision support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), customers, and partners to ensure a safe and efficient National Airspace System.
