JOB SUMMARY: This position is a Fish Biologist, GS- 0482-11 working in Ashland, Wisconsin for the R3-Ashland Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Fish Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Provide oversight and technical direction to the implementation of an aquatic invasive species early detection program, including scheduling, planning, or conducting multi-gear field surveys for fishes and benthic invertebrates throughout the Lake Superior basin. Improve and refine methods for field data collection, management, and annual reporting. Activities include working with geospatial tools and programming software to automate and improve data workflow processes. Provide technical assistance and support to the regional aquatic invasive species program and to external partner agencies in the development and optimization of aquatic invasive species early detection efforts in the Great Lakes. This would include analyzing and summarizing traditional fishery survey and genetic datasets to inform programmatic initiatives. Maintain and foster a network of resource agency partners that support basin wide objectives for aquatic invasive species early detection activities in the Great Lakes. This would also include presenting relevant information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Coordinate with staff to procure goods and services necessary for carrying out day-to-day operations and for equipment repair and maintenance.
