JOB SUMMARY: A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. These positions are temporary and may not exceed 1039 hours (six months) in a service year. They may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. MAJOR DUTIES: These positions are located in Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in the Maintenance Division. The typical season for these positions is April through October, but varies during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, and funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2025 The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Preservation, rehabilitation, construction, repair of, and installation to items such as framework, floor joist, rafters, roof sheathing, sub-flooring, decking, framing, doors, windows, etc., using a variety of historic and non-historic materials such as, wood timbers, beams, plywood, particle board, sheet rock, paneling tile, etc. Measure, cut, construct, install, repair, and modify wood, composite, and wood substitute items. Apply standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds. Physical Demands: Incumbent works in shops, other buildings, and at construction and repair sites. Climbs on ladders and scaffolds. Work requires reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, and other awkward positions. Lifts heavy objects such as rafters and beams. Carry objects up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside. Some work is performed in shop areas where worker is exposed to moderate to high noise levels and dust. Exposed to hazards associated while working on scaffolds or ladders. Subject to cuts, bruises, slivers, and falling objects. Uses protective equipment such as earplugs, eye protection, breathing protection, gloves, and helmets. Government housing may be available.
