We are seeking an experienced Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our team at Hurt & Proffitt, Inc. in the Lynchburg/Gretna/Roanoke area. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in environmental permitting, with a strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations. Our ideal candidate has an established work ethic with the ability to work independently and also with team members, and a willingness to engage on a variety of tasks.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of environmental permits for Civil Engineering projects including
- Joint Permit Applications (JPA)
- Environmental Impact Report (EIR)
- National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and Special Use Permits (SUP)
- Monitor permit conditions and deadlines and ensure timely renewal and compliance reporting.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams on environmental permitting matters.
- Prepare and submit permit applications, environmental impact assessments, and regulatory compliance documents.
- Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies, to facilitate the permitting process.
- Frequent travel and/or field work to our clients’ sites.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in environmental permitting.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Must have strong technical writing skills, and the ability to read Civil Engineering drawings.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving history.
Preferred Qualifications
- Has established relationships with state and federal regulatory agency personnel.
- Experience with the formation of stream and wetland banking instruments is a plus!
