Overview of this Position:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist I or II works with EHS Department to review and interpret regulatory requirements, relating to EHS, and provide cost effective recommendations to the EHS Manager for implementation and compliance. The EHS Specialist I performs a variety of complex tasks and assist in the work of others. The EHS Specialist II performs a variety of complex tasks and may lead and direct the work of others. A fair degree of creativity and latitude is expected with either the level I and/or level II role.
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of 0-3 years related work experience.
- Master's degree may be considered in lieu of prior work experience (level II).
- Knowledge of National Institute of Health (NIH) guidelines requirements and International Building Code (IBC).
- Knowledge of MIOSHA, EGLE, EPA and DOT regulations. Familiarity with a wide variety of EHS concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Level II - Proven EHS Professional with experience in EHS field or prior experience in pharmaceutical, bio-pharma, and/or biotech manufacturing environment.
Preferred Requirements:
- Biosafety laboratory experience.
- Experience in biomedical, pharmaceutical, or related industry.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
- Stay current with regulatory compliance issues by reviewing Federal, State, and Local environmental health and safety laws and regulations which may affect GRAM's ability to manufacture or distribute products.
- Lead in drafting company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Perform EHS audits and inspections and develop appropriate corrective actions.
- Help administer and run the Safety Committee meetings.
- Ensure guidelines are followed on Hazard Communication and safety data sheet requirements.
- Ensure the collection, storage, and removal of Hazardous, Medical, Electronic and Universal wastes.
- Ensure all waste shipments are properly containerized, packaged, and/or labeled.
- When requested or required to do so: signs waste/recycling shipping papers, bills of lading, and EPA Hazardous Waste manifest (provided has obtained DOT Shipper Cert.), in compliance with relevant regulations and/or standards.
- Perform or assist, with limited scope, spill response and clean up and/or limited scope emergency response activities including cleaning up leaks or spills, containerizing spill clean-up materials, cleaning containers, and decontaminating environmentally contaminated equipment or surfaces.
