I. Job Summary
Responsible for the environmental due diligence review of business acquisitions for WM. Includes identification and valuation of environmental property issues, regulatory compliance and liability exposures. Manages third-party consultants performing site visits, Phase I and II Investigations, file reviews, etc.…Routine coordination with WM management, legal counsel and WM business representatives.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The acquisition due diligence within Disposal Operations covers environmental, compliance, operational, and property assessment tasks for locations and businesses under consideration for purchase, or lease, by WM.
For landfill facilities, development of WM’s standard Landfill Workbook (ALFR) and preparation of the associated Landfill Acquisition Model are also due diligence tasks.
Consultants are used to support essentially all due diligence efforts. Standard work scopes for the consultants are refined based on the target under consideration and the confidentiality provisions negotiated between the target and WM. Position is responsible for management of consultants through the entire process, from development of the Request for Proposal (RFP), proposal review, review of deliverables and budget is necessary.
Communication of identified issues to WM’s business development team, legal department, Area management, and outside counsel, with emphasis on items considered to be material, is critical.
Concurrent with issue identification is the development and distribution of costs associated with the identified issues. Review and comment on Purchase Agreement terms and Disclosure schedules is also necessary to confirm that identified issues are appropriately addressed.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
Oversee consultants as needed.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's of Science, Environmental Engineering or Geology Degree preferred (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 10 years of relevant work experience in Environmental Protection.
- Experience: Seven (7) plus years of environmental protection experience and two (2) years of solid waste/landfill experience (in addition to education requirement). Two plus years of Environmental Due Diligence experience a plus.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
- Valid Driver's License required.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Ability to travel as needed.

The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. [or Canada as appropriate] is $120,500.00 - $165,000.00. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
