Job Summary
Reporting to the EHS Manager, The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for developing and managing environmental programs, including reporting, sampling, permitting, assessing risks, and planning across Atura Power. The Environment Specialist will also ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations, corporate policies, and procedures for Atura Power.
Responsibilities
- Provide expertise and collaborate with plant staff to maintain facility compliance with air, water, waste, remediation and hazardous materials regulations
- Provide training, support, and communication to staff and contractors in environmental requirements and processes to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Manage, prepare and/or provide expertise to plant staff to prepare environmental data and reports for submittal to local, provincial, and federal regulatory agencies
- Work with internal stakeholders, including Health & Safety, Plant Managers, Project Managers, Human Resources and other Atura Staff to ensure company goals are adequately communicated and properly implemented
- Provide expertise and collaborate with project teams on environmental permitting, environmental assessments, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to communicate professionally with external stakeholders including regulatory bodies such as the MECP and local authorities
- Support the implementation and maintenance of a Health, Safety & Environment managed system and Contractor Management Plan
- Identify, measure, monitor, and mitigate environmental risks and liabilities associated with Atura Power’s assets; performing integrated risk assessments to manage environmental issues
- Quality control of reports and assessments of sampling work; assess results of previous sampling and remediation work and provide recommendation on go-forward plans required to meet regulatory and company expectations
- Manage and develop plans, permits, procedures for air quality monitoring and reporting, industrial and hazardous waste, spill prevention, storm water, and waste water
- Legislative monitoring, gap analysis and risk assessment associated with new, proposed, or promulgated regulations
- Schedule and participate in incident investigations, inspections, and lead or assist with planned Health, Safety & Environment inspections, and audits
- Actively participate in joint EHS committees
Qualifications & Education
- In depth knowledge of Provincial, Federal and local Environmental Regulations
- Minimum 8 years of combined applicable academic training, certification, and related work experience (certification or accreditation in an environmental or scientific discipline)
- An accredited Bachelor’s or Masters of Science or Arts degree in an environmental science, planning, engineering, or related curriculum
