The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist with the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at our Northwest District Office in Bowling Green, Ohio.

As an environmental specialist, you’ll perform site coordinator and inspector duties for hazardous waste handling facilities and remedial action sites. These duties include inspecting sites of contaminated environmental or waste-related media for compliance with state and federal regulations and RCRA permit requirements.
You’ll review, prepare and implement permits, work plans, sampling plans, reports, and technical memoranda involving hazardous waste sites under activity of the Clean Ohio Fund, Voluntary Action Program and sites subject to remediation under state, CERCLA, or RCRA authorities.
Coordinating with agency personnel and other state and federal agencies, you’ll assist responsible parties and hazardous waste facilities with non-compliance issues and identify and initiate necessary enforcement actions when necessary.
As subject expert, you’ll provide technical assistance to citizens, consultants, and the regulated community regarding state and federal laws applicable to hazardous waste and cleanup programs.
Here’s a sweep of those major tasks:
- Perform site coordinator and inspector duties for hazardous waste sites under federal remediation programs and actions.
- Review technical documents, program data, and hazardous waste site permits to determine adequacy and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee development and implementation of contamination investigations and enforcement actions.

- 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
- OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents. Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
- OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
