The primary function of the Environmental Reclamation Technical Specialist is to provide specialized technical support to our team to provide solutions to our clients’ reclamation sites challenges. The role also supports SynergyAspen in training and professional development, and research and development.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Review technical reports and provide feedback to report writers.
- Offer technical support to all staff for interpreting laws and regulations.
- Develop reclamation plans, which includes environmental applications and generating contracts.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of work plans and cost estimates.
- Secure applicable federal and provincial environmental approvals and certifications.
- Conduct on-site evaluations and analysis of environmental conditions, including soil groundwater, surface water, and air quality characteristics.
- Evaluate and monitor reclamation projects, including site preparation, remediation, and sampling protocols, while supervising contractors, subcontractors and field personnel.
- Enhance operational efficiency by updating and creating technical POPs.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes across provinces, territories, and federal levels.
- Provide project management support as needed.
- Conduct technical training sessions on various topics.
- Assist junior and intermediate staff with questions and guidance.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications for Environmental Technical Specialist
- 10+ years of relevant contaminated sites/reclamation experience in environmental consulting in BC, with 5+ years of project management experience.
- Significant experience working on reclamation/contaminated sites projects of varying complexity.
- Technical diploma or degree in a related discipline.
- Possesses a recognized accredited professional designation (e.g., P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Chem, P.Ag. etc.) recognized in BC, or the ability to acquire one.
- Knowledge of and experience with environmental standards, and regulations or guidelines and federal and provincial regulations. Primarily knowledge with the BCER Delegation Agreement, pre-reclamation, and post-reclamation assessments, and requirements relating to consultation with stakeholders.
- Experience in landowner and stakeholder consultations/communications.
- Experience managing a team, while providing training and mentorship to juniors.
