This position is responsible for ensuring that Baxters North America complies with the Environmental, Safety, Health & Security standards of the food industry and State/Federal regulatory agencies and laws. Responsibilities also include maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel by administering educational materials and comprehensive safety programs. As part of the leadership team, they will be expected to promote a high-performance safety culture and deliver risk reduction across the factory/warehouse operations. Lead and support incident investigations that identify root cause and develop countermeasures that prevent re-occurrence.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and corporate environmental, health and safety laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
- Ensure working environment for employees that has low injury risk due to conditions, equipment, and behaviours.
- Ensure EHS inclusion in LEAN/Continuous Improvement/TPM processes.
- Be the face of EHS through constant communication to employees and staff through daily tours, meetings, training, and coaching.
- Be a part of cross-functional teams that maintain facility infrastructure and building security.
- Monitors and ensures completion of corrective actions due to scheduled internal audits, organizational risk assessments, root cause analyses of incidents and external inspections.
- Provides support and guidance to location leadership team when leading incident investigations. Assuring the report’s timely completion, identification of root cause, corrective actions, and escalation within 48 hours.
- Responsible for departmental work plan that includes contingency planning and emergency preparedness, environmental programs & infrastructure/life safety permit related inspections.
- Issues EHS communications including incident trend data analysis, departmental summaries, feedback from behavioural audits, single point lessons (Safety Alerts) and others.
- Primary contact for regulatory inspections, permits and licensing in relation the EHS programs and insurance.
- Primary contact to the third-party Security Service, alarm monitoring system, building access system and video cameras.
- Collaborate with production and supporting departments to ensure the food safety and quality of our products.
Education: Minimum associate degree required in Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene/Safety, or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in an EHS or related filed in a manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of material flow and manufacturing operations. Fluency in Microsoft Office and various software programs. Experience working with internal and external customers a plus.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. \ This position will also require climbing ladders and stairs. This individual must also be able to tolerate various temperature and weather extremes. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
