This Opportunity
We are seeking a self-motivated Environmental Scientist with a strong technical writing background to join our team! In this role, you will use technical writing and analysis skills to support and prepare project deliverables. This role requires a blend of field experience and technical communication skills, providing a meaningful impact on environmental projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Use technical writing and analysis skills to support and prepare project deliverables including proposals, work planning documents, data review and interpretation, project summary reports, technical reports, conference abstract submittals, correspondence, bid specifications, and cost estimates under direction of a Project Manager
- Have experience with investigating and determining conventional and emerging contaminants issues, and apply a working knowledge of regulations
- Have a working knowledge of project financial and reporting basics
- Train and act as Task Leader
- Work with Bay West field staff and coordinate field activities with contractors
- Read/understand SOPs and train on specific field tasks
- Conduct field work as requested, to include out-of-town travel for up to two weeks at a time, multiple times a year
- Demonstrate competency with field activities, including various methods of drilling, soil, and groundwater sampling
- Accurately and efficiently conduct environmental sampling (air, water, soil, sediment), and utilize and maintain field equipment in accordance with the supplied work plan and SOPs
- Support accurate and efficient logging of soil cores/cuttings and prepare geologic boring logs and descriptions
- Organize, digitize and file documents and field notes in Bay West project management system in a timely manner
- Support project team in problem identifications and resolutions as they arise in the field or during a project
- Manage schedule and relationships to maintain utilization goals and complete activities within promised time frames
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- BS - Earth Sciences, Environmental Science or Related
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Environmental role
- Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain within 30 days
- Able to obtain site access to secure areas such as Federal or State sites
- Ability to employ common field practices involving drilling, groundwater sampling, and excavation oversight and knowledge of safety procedures
- Ability to read and understand maps, schematic drawings, diagrams, and instruction manuals
- Proficiency using Acrobat, Word and Excel applications and multiple onsite communication apps. Other technical software proficiencies will be considered.
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Experience with field equipment such as water quality monitoring instruments, photoionization detectors (PIDs), and global positioning systems (GPS) units
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and laws, including, but not limited to cleanup guidance and United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and recent PFAS and emerging contaminant regulations
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive motions: substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers including reaching and computer-based work
- During field work and field preparation, frequently lifts up to 10 lbs. over an 8-hour period and occasionally up to 50 lbs. over a four-hour period.
- Exposure to non-hazardous and hazardous work environments including contaminated air, soil, dust, fumes, smoke and other toxins, with knowledge of the proper use of appropriate PPE
- Ability to work outside in varying conditions, such as high heat, high humidity and extreme cold in remote locations.
