About the role
Reporting to the Director of Environmental Affairs, the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing the safety and occupational health components of personnel, materials, equipment, and working environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring that all environmental related tasks are completed for the site. This position will drive effective internal management of EHS programs to identify and prevent environmental incidents.
Position Responsibilities
Manage medical-related conditions (HAZ Mat Surveillance, Respiratory, Workers Comp & Off Duty).
Conduct and coordinate worker training in areas governed by USEPA, OEPA, OSHA, DOT, and other government agencies
Perform critical employee onboarding and orientation duties.
Investigate, report, and review findings from all near-miss reports, accident investigations, facility inspections, or environmental testing results.
File claims and manage ongoing claims.
Interface with Risk Control, Captive Insurance, and all Client/Disposal Partner H&S Representatives.
Peer review of all safety programs for adequacy, compliance, and improvement opportunity.
Provide exceptional and hand-on training around critical subject matter including confined Space, HAZWOPER, First Aid & CPR, DOT Hazardous Materials, OSHA 10 Hour, SPCC, SWPPP, RCRA, Environmental Awareness, and client specific programs.
Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
Perform external auditing (disposal partner and client services) and internal auditing (field projects, truck terminals, wastewater treatment facilities).
Manage relationship with regulatory authorities including inspectors, law enforcement, as well as, the community.
Ensure environmental compliance by providing interpretations and guidance, assisting with the preparation of and ongoing maintenance of environmental licenses and permits, providing review and feedback regarding non-routine environmental reporting and communications, and conducting site audits and compliance reviews.
Using full knowledge of Environmental practices and standards, reviews, analyzes and other data, to confirm Environmental standards are met
Develops workable strategies to mitigate/eliminate compliance risks and provides recommendations to Director and/or business partners as required.
Maintain membership affiliation and ongoing trainer education.
Co-administer Ideagen (environmental task/incident internal system), E Logs, fleet technologies, USEPA/OEPA site accounts and database systems.
Expand upon occupational clinic relationship and service profiling.
Execute integration duties per new business unit acquisition.
Ensure corporate programs and procedures are understood and implemented at each facility, including NetSuite review and reporting, RCA for significant environmental events, and industrial hygiene monitoring and chemical characterization.
Collaborate with the Director of Environmental and Manager of Transportation to prepare training materials, coordinate weekly and monthly safety themes, complete incident reports, and generate monthly statistics.
Attend and teaches training courses in the field for all relevant environmental tasks.
Verify CES consistently remains up-to-date and current with local and federal regulations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in science (biology, chemistry, environmental science, occupational health, and safety) or engineering (environmental, chemical, mechanical, industrial hygiene, etc.) or a related degree; in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience
Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, ASM, NPPA, DOT regulations, Clean Water Act, SPCC, EPCRA, and RCRA requirements.
5 years of experience as a safety and/or environmental professional responsible for compliance in the area of OSHA, ANSI, ASME NFPA, and DOT standards.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and environmental rules, operating and maintenance instructions, Code of Federal regulation, OSHA regulations, and other consensus standards, and procedure manuals.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Knowledge of solid waste permitting requirements and related reporting requirements
Demonstrated understanding of the relationship between business activities and relevant regulatory state, local and regulatory requirements.
Proven ability to use critical thinking skills and rigorous logic and methods to solve challenging issues with effective solutions related to regulatory compliance.
