The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.
Are you passionate about decarbonisation of our industry and energy sectors? As industrial sectors plan their transition to NetZero we are seeing the development of substitutes for fossil fuels, particularly where hydrogen or electrification are not viable options.
We are looking for a Senior Advisor to lead our work to prepare to regulate production and use of these low carbon fuels (LCF).
The processes for producing and using LCFs are not always the same as for fossil derived fuels and the potential environmental risks and impacts are different. We need to gather evidence, develop standards, write guidance, and create regulatory tools to support these emerging technologies. This will allow us to ensure that the energy sectors continue to operate so that people and the environment are protected from emissions, as well as mitigating for and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
We’re looking for an experienced technical advisor for a 12-month fixed term assignment. You will have a detailed technical understanding of low carbon fuel technologies and products including:
• Waste pyrolysis
• Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil
• Sustainable Aviation Fuel
• Bio-fuels
• Ammonia
The role will focus on delivery of Environment Agency duties under the following regulations:
• Environmental permitting regulations
• Industrial Emissions Directive
• The Control of Major Accident Hazard regulations (COMAH)
You’ll need to:
• Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
• Working with internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop the tools we need to regulate, support and deliver environmental outcomes.
• Commission and manage research projects.
